I held the TV's remote mute button down for one minute and that did it.
Now, when the Roku's volume buttons are pressed, all I hear is silence from the TV telling me how high or low the volume is
You programmed the Roku remote for your TV brand, it's now emitting tv commands, so this is your TV problem, not a Roku problem. Do you have an original Tv remote? Does it do the same thing when using that as well?
I figured it was the TV's problem but could not find anything in the Sony TV's system to shut it off.
I'll go back in and look once more.
If I still cannot find anything, I'll call Sony

Very strange that the TV all of a sudden started doing that
JimShaw, some TVs turn on the "feature" with a long press of the Mute button. I don't know if a long press will turn it back off or if you have to go through the TV's menus.
