It was not powered. But if I use the ROKU usb cable, the ROKU shuts off. I’m clearly doing something wrong….
You need to have all these things plugged in.
1. The converter came with a micro USB power cable. Plug this into an outlet.
2. The Roku also came with a micro USB power adapter. Plug this into an outlet.
3. Of course, plug your TV into an outlet.
You may need another outlet or a power strip for all these plugs. 🙂

Unfortunately, that HDMI converter ships without an AC adapter and says that you must supply power. (That’s how they sell it for $15 instead of around $20.) Hopefully you have something laying around – even a laptop could be used for testing.

Sorry about sounding like a broken record, but does switching the PAL/NTSC switch on the side of the converter do anything?

For the volume, you now need to setup the TV controls with your remote. You did not mention which Roku model you had (Settings/System/About), but from the Roku Home Screen go to Settings/Remotes & Devices/Remotes/Setup Remote for TV control. Then go through the process on screen and see if the Roku can find a compatible code for your TV. (Make sure to turn up the volume using your TV remote, not the Roku remote, so you can hear the music playing when prompted by the process).

Thank you so much for all of your help!

Was just looking at the Amazon converter link again.
Does says that needs 5volt, 1amp power supply adapter. (not included) Any cell phone charger adapter will work. This is the same as the Roku device's power adapter (5volt, 1amp).

Thanks for the research, folks! So close!!!!
Everything hooked up to a three plug outlet. Roku is trying to work but everything is wavy

….and double vision

Eliminated the double vision👌🏼

Looks like you are on your way...hopefully. 👍

Keep in mind with this kind of setup that the video and audio quality is not going to be as good as an HDMI compatible TV, but certainly gives some new life to older TVs. There may be some quirks along the way but at least you should be able to stream from your Roku now.

Did you eliminate the double vision by switching the PAL/NTSC switch or something else? See if moving the converter away from any AC power cords helps with the waviness.

Well….I’m in!!!🙌🏼 But now I need to figure out why I can’t control volume. AND….it’s black & white! Back to the 50’s🤪

And trying to go to live TV I get this black-and-white display
- shirleywoff3 years agoChannel Surfer
I’m able to get around that… I just need to get back to being able to adjust the volume and color.
Thank you, folks, so very much… Lunch is on me!

It’s a ROKU Express Model 3930X
ROKU Home Screen✔️

I see “Setup” just underneath, but only options are to “Add a new remote” and “Add devices” - AvsGunnar3 years agoCommunity Streaming Expert
Did the Express 3930 come with a Simple Remote (no volume controls) on it?
If this is the case, then will need to get a Voice Remote or Voice Remote Pro (rechargeable) if you want the Roku remote to control the TV power and volume.
