TCL Roku TV & Google Home

HI All,

I've been researching this problem, and tried everything I can find to fix this. I have two TCL Roku TVs connected to the same wifi network in my house. Both register in my Roku Account. I have linked my Roku account to my Google Home account. The Home app on my phone shows both TVs are "offline."

Both TVs have Fast Power enabled. Both are linked to the Roku account. Both are up to date with the current software. The phone is connected to the same wifi network and the same 5Ghz band as the TVs. The Roku remote Android app works and controls the TVs. But, the Home app isn't working. I've reset the router. I've reset the TVs. I've cleared the Home Cache and Data. I've unlinked and relinked the Roku account. What am I missing? Is there a setting on my router? I have an Arris router, and IPv6 is enabled. Thanks in advance for the help.

  • Finally! Thank you Roku for sending through an update. My two TCL TVs are communicating with Google Home now! It's been a while, but they did it!

Now I am here along with everyone else. I have bought both a Hisense and a TCL Roku TV and I have done the same as everyone else here. Only instead of Google I have been using Alexa. I also tried google but that also doesn’t work lol. This issue started Oct 20th for me. If it’s a software issue then I agree it needs to be fixed or a statement needs released. The thing that really angers me right now is the fact that I called Roku support and was told that I must have bought the wrong TV or didn’t understand how to properly set it up. I was made to feel like I was dumb and just doing things wrong when the whole time it’s been an issue on their side this whole time. I’ve been given the run around, told to buy a different TV (which is why I got the TCL), told to try buying a Bluetooth receiver (which I did and doesn’t help), and told to try asking a younger member of my family that would probably understand technology better then me (I’m 30). I used to love my Roku products and would tell those I knew not to bother with Firesticks and chromecasts because Roku was the best. I guess I’ll take my old dumbass self somewhere else and get products that are easier for me to understand.

Okay, that last part would have really irked me. I work in phone tech support, supporting literally dozens of different products and I know more than a little about troubleshooting. Sure, Google Home has been hot garbage for more than a while (and now they're actually removing features), but this is clearly a software issue on Roku's side of things.

Right? Thank you for saying that. When it was said to me I was like “I’m sorry…what?”

    Hi ohpkuser,

Thank you for posting here in the Roku Community!

We understand you're having difficulties with the Google Home on your Roku TV. We appreciate your patience about the issue you are experiencing and we're happy to help you.

Have you tried connecting Roku to Google Home on different mobile phones and making sure the mobile phone & Roku are connected to the same network?

We would also recommend taking a look at our Support page for more information regarding how to use Google to control your Roku streaming device.

Please keep us posted from there if you need additional help.

    Regards,
    John

John. Thanks for the reply. I went through all of that article before posting here. Unfortunately, nothing in the article helped me resolve the issue.

Thanks for keeping us updated, ohpkuser

For us to determine things better, may we know what specific issue you are having with the Google Home app and its connection to the Roku TV? What feature is not working? Also, what feature do you expect to work on? Further, what behavior does it show that describes the issue?

With more details, we can have better clarification with the issue.

        All the best,
        Kash
