Roku TV black screen but has sound

The owner of Roku know full well that there's a problem with the screen blacking out and will do nothing unless the warranty is still good but if you have had the TV for longer then a year they want you to pay out of pocket to fix it this is a scam people since the owners know about it. It is on them to pay to have it fixed otherwise more people will be cheated out of their hard earned money to fix a problem that the owners know full well about and did nothing about.

    Hi Roku Community users,

If you're experiencing a blank screen with audio on your Roku TV, don't worry—here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Check the Basics:

      • Power Supply: Ensure that your TV is securely plugged in and that the power outlet is working.
      • Cable Connections: Double-check that all cables (power, HDMI, etc.) are firmly connected to both the TV and your source device (e.g., cable box, game console).
      • Input Source: Make sure your TV is set to the correct input source (e.g., HDMI 1, HDMI 2, AV).
    2. Wake-Up Mode: Some TVs have a “wake up” mode that may cause a delayed picture. Try pressing any button on the TV remote or on the TV itself to wake it up.

    3. HDMI-CEC Settings: Ensure that HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) is enabled on your TV. This feature allows devices connected to your TV (such as a Roku or game console) to control the TV and may help resolve display issues. Check your TV's settings and enable the HDMI-CEC option.

    4. Restart Your TV:

      • Power Cycle: Turn off your TV, wait a few moments, then turn it back on.
      • Unplug the TV: If that doesn't work, unplug the TV from the power source, wait 10-15 seconds, and then plug it back in.
    5. Factory Reset (Last Resort): If none of the above steps work, you can try performing a factory reset on your Roku TV. Please note that this will erase all your settings and data, so it's important to be sure before proceeding. You can refer to your TV's user manual for specific instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

If you continue to experience issues after trying these steps, please consult your TV's user manual or contact the manufacturer's support for further assistance.

For better visibility and reference, we'll mark this post as solved once the issue is resolved.

  • I have a 70" Roku TV and the screen went black but everything else still works. It has sound and I can hear the cursor moving when I use the remote. From what I've seen, this is a very common and ongoing problem. My TV is less than 3 years old. It would cost a lot of money to bring it to a repair place to get it fixed. I tried every recommendation to fix the problem and nothing worked.

  • my tv is a hisense  roku tv and i tried resetting it and unplugging it but nothing happens an the screen remains black and i can hear it i cant see anything on the tv

  • My TV is doing the same thing and it's TCL also. Did u find a solution?

  • My tv when black and a bunch of lines, still has sound. I’ve only had my tv 5 months. Do I get a refund?? Apparently it’s happens to a lot of Rokus and it’s still being sold? That is an issue.

  • My tv is also TLC Roku and less than a year old. I called tech support and they gave me some things to try but none worked. The only thing is I don’t have the receipt. The tv was purchased for me by my son last Christmas!! Looks like I am at a loss right now. But I am noticing that TLC Roku brand is doing this. Looks like they have a bad product. They aren’t even trying to fix the problem. I am so sorry that my son purchased this brand.

It could be that your set's backlight has failed.  If you get real close and shine a flashlight on the screen, can you see that there is a actually an image there?

My Phillips Roku is doing the same thing, except I have a perfect picture on the home screen. I've tried the unplugging and the factory reset. To my dismay on any app and live TV all I get is the black screen and best of family feud sound

  • I totally agree. My tv is less than a year old. Since I can’t find my receipt I am out of the money that I spent. I will never buy another TLC Roku tv again. I purchased it from Walmart. Been only using it for about six months. I feel cheated out of my money when these folks know that this tv is trash

  • I totally agree. My tv was less than a year old and I had only been using it for about six months. I called Roku several times and they wanted a receipt. Well I couldn’t find it but I had it as a receipt on Fetch and they wouldn’t accept it. Now my warranty is expired and I am out of a tv and my money. I wished I had researched them before I purchased it, it certainly wouldn’t be in my house. Good luck with your tv
