Roku remote button response issue

I purchased a Roku Streaming Stick 4K and installed it.  It worked fine at first but now I seem to have to push the buttons twice to get it to work.  Why is this happening?

    Thank you for raising this remote issue. To assist you with it, consider these steps.

    1. Reboot voice remote: Press and hold the pairing/Home and Back Button for 20 seconds.
    2. Reboot streaming device: Unplug Roku for 15 seconds, then plug it back in.
    3. Replace or recharge remote batteries.
    4. Re-pair remote: Press and hold the pairing/Home and Back Button for 5 seconds.
