Remote Battery Warning Won’t Stop Flashing on Screen

The battery warning won’t quit flashing on our screen. This is a rechargeable remote and it is fully charged. Yet, every 30 seconds or so it flashes on the screen with the battery life of the remote. Nothing I can find in the system settings or remote settings will make the stop. it is not a question of changing the batteries because it is a rechargeable remote. Is there anything that I can do to fix this?

  • I have a similar "issue" on a Ultra that has started in the last few days. In the upper right corner of the screen, it pops up the words "Remote Control?" and displays the battery charge. It pops it up there at what appears to be random times. Sometimes its 30 seconds or so apart then it stops for awhile. If I have the voice control button set to off, it starts popping up the "hands free voice is off" message instead. It's very distracting.

I am wondering if it might be an issue with a firmware update.

      Thanks for the posts.

Can you please provide more details about the issue you are experiencing so we can better understand what you are seeing?

      • Roku device model, serial number, device ID, and software OS/version (these can all be found in Settings > System > About)
      • is this the remote that came with the Roku device
      • does this issue occur on a specific channel? if so, what channel and what version/build is the channel (this can be found be selecting the channel on the Home screen and pressing the * button)
      • tracker ID when this issue occurs (when you see this issue occur, press the Home button 5 times, followed by the Back button 5 times and provide us with this ID)
      • steps to reproduce the issue you are seeing
      • screenshot of what is happening on screen

Once we have more detailed information, we will be able to investigate the issue further.

      Thanks,
      Danny

        Model: 4802X - Roku Ultra
        Serial Number: X01000A3FDSR
        Software: 11.5.0 Build 4235-C2
        Device ID: S0DA2283FDSR

I have done a factory reset and a power reset and re-paired the remote.

Here is a picture of what is being displayed on the screen. It displays the message every 5 seconds.
It does not matter what channel. I have to wrap the remote in aluminum foil to get it to stop.

  • I have a similar issue using a Voice Remote Pro and a 55" Roku TCL TV (55R615) Hardware ID 7120X with Software Version 11.5.0 build 4235-30. Is there a solution? Thank you

I have done all the suggested fixes. The Roku Ultra is on the latest firmware, the remote has been paired a number of times. The pairing button is not "stuck".  The remote is the voice remote pro so it does not have removable batteries and the remote is fully charged.

Nothing has fixed the issue. Unfortunately it is probably as simple as the remote is bad and has to be replaced

These Roku remotes are a bad design plain and simple. The only Roku remotes that work properly are the simple IR remotes that you don't pair to your Roku and never had private listening. With those remotes you can use two AAA batteries for pretty much an entire year before having to replace them and since they don't get paired to your Roku the battery indicator never pops up on the screen, because the Roku doesn't know the battery level.

It's the enhanced voice remotes that are the problem, they drain batteries way to fast and then you get spamming of your TV screen with battery level warnings that you can't disable. The best thing you can do is use one of the standard IR remotes or get a universal streaming player remote that works with Roku to control TV volume and power. This way you'll get the most out of your batteries and you'll never get any messages popping up onscreen about your battery level. Unfortunately that option won't work if you have a streaming stick because it goes behind your TV and there is no line of sight to your remote, but if you have a Roku player on your TV stand IR remotes are the better option.

In my opinion Roku needs to completely redesign these voice remotes because there is a terrible design flaw somewhere in the hardware, killing your batteries too quickly and then the pop up annoyances on your screen constantly telling you your battery level when you don't want to see it. Roku won't even update the remote settings so you can turn the battery notification off, Roku just doesn't care. Their solution is always to ask for your serial number, ask you to factory reset your Roku, unpair and repair your remote or sometimes send you a new remote which also doesn't work properly.

The moderators on here who monitor all of these remote issues just seem to be going down the same troubleshooting script of steps that don't work and if they do actually report the issues to the people responsible for designing the remotes they don't seem to care. It's such a shame because Roku is a great product but the remotes are completely flawed, after many years nothing has changed, not very encouraging for a company to still have these issues after so many complaints and no real solutions have been implemented.

  • We had this issue and finally got super frustrated - had to contact support and get it replaced. Warning, even if it is brand new (which ours was) you have to pay to return it so they can ship you a new one. The online support was helpful though, they walked us through all the options before deciding it couldn't be fixed.

Ok super helpful but made you pay the return fee. And haven't fixed the issue for new customers?!? Bunch of **bleep**

  • Voice remote pro, second remote purchased for TV. Battery low messages started displaying after a month of use. Charged remote. Display will show not go away. I’ve tried every troubleshooting tip I can find online. Battery showed full charge yesterday, now is in the red. I went to Settings/Remote/About. No serial number displayed. Firmware version “rtn.4186.”

I think the remote is defective. If I return it will the same problem persist?

This is a fatal flaw and makes the product unusable. It gives me pause buying other Roku products. So far noone from the company has responded to this string of posts .
