Your JVC likely responds to a different set of Infrared commands than the previous set the remote was set up for.
Retrain the remote via Roku menu path: "Settings -> Remotes & devices > Remotes"
Arrow down to select your Remote (in use).
Now select "Set up remote for TV control"
.. And follow the prompts.

It's a used tv right? Maybe the tv is faulty and not accepting IR commands? Do you have any remote that works with it?

I had this problem one time, and was able to set the remote up for a different TV as a new remote, rather than reprogramming it as an existing remote.
Settings > Remotes and devices > Add devices > Remote

Thanks for the advice everyone.
- I have sadly already tried re-programming the remote, which hasn’t worked.
- The TV has a remote that came with it, which works fine, so I assume the IR functionality is fine.
- Good idea about adding the remote as a new one - I just tried this though and sadly it didn’t work!
any further advice would be much appreciated!
