I paid around $80 for my Roku Ultra because FireTV wouldn't stop bombarding me with ads. Now I can't get the Roku Channel Ads to go away.
Last week it was a fishing show. I chatted with a Roku employee and he fixed the problem, which I found very helpful and refreshing. Now it's a sushi show. The only control I seem to have is to hit the play button and that starts the show. Any ideas out there?
Try some other channel/apps.
I got a Roku around 2015 or 2016, and I saw ads on The Roku Channel so I stopped watching that channel. Fortunately, many other channels are available on a Roku device such as Netflix, Prime, Max, Apple TV, Disney, Paramount+ etc. If you don't like ads, you don't have to have them. On the other hand, other people prefer to have their entertainment paid for by someone else so there are channels that work that way as well.
??? I pay for various subscriptions through Roku. No one is paying these for me. Yet I still have to watch Roku ads before I can watch these channels. Is there a way to stop the Roku ads? Yes, I have to go through Roku Channel to watch them, but I am paying the same for the subscriptions as I would directly from the channel. Too late now?
On my Roku, I subscribe to Netflix, Prime Video, and Paramount+ and don't see ads on any of them. (I don't use The Roku Channel for any of these - I use apps on the Roku home page.) If the same stuff shows up with ads if watched via The Roku Channel, then consider not watching them that way???
On the other hand, maybe you're subscribing to some service with a "hybrid" business model which has both fees and ads (sometimes called: "limited ads" 😀). If you don't like the ads on those, then changing services or changing to a higher tier that makes the ads go away me be an option to consider.
In the end, there are many many apps on Roku, and it's possible to watch with no ads, and it's possible to not pay and watch many ads, and various levels in between those. And there are some apps, which (currently?) have no ads or payments. There are also a couple of library-run apps such as hoopla which I believe lack both ads and payments. So, browse around - there are many options.
