Can I use HDMI ARC and HDMI to 3.5 mm converter with audio jack to hear tv through PC speakers?

I have a TCL ROKU tv with a headphone jack and an HDMI ARC outlet. I also have some PC speakers with a 3.5 mm plug.

When I plug the speakers into the headphone jack, the speakers work fine, but I lose the ability to use the tv's volume leveling function because I'm using the headphone jack.

I'm looking for a way to use the HDMI ARC outlet and an HDMI to 3.5 mm converter so I can plug the speakers into the audio jack on the converter, still use the speakers, but also regain the volume leveling function.

Has anyone done this, or does anyone know if this would work?
