I got my brand new Roku Ultra (2024) just couple weeks ago on the 27th February. And right off the bat the backdrops app never worked and always crashed after getting stuck in loading for 20 seconds. Using latest software.
So unfortunately I’ve never got to see the inside of the backdrops app as it never works for me. I’m amazed by the fact that Roku still doesn’t solve this issue as so many users seem to experience it…

Can you also share the version of the Backdrops build version? (Highlight the app from the Home Screen and press the Star * Button) Also, does restarting the device help with the issue temporarily?
