Solved

Alexa/Google rebooting all of my Roku TV’s. Won’t turn them off.

Just last night all of my Roku TV’s (Hisense, Sharps) will not turn off by Alexa. It has been working fine until last night. I tell Alexa to turn off and it goes into thinking mode and then reboots the tv. I’ve done everything except for a factory reset of the TV’s. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I’ll have to look when I get home. I’m glad it’s not just me. My Roku sticks are working fine as of this morning.

  • Same here going crazy if you got any update on what to do please keep us posted

  • Same issue here. Saying “Alexa, turn off the TV” causes my Roku TV to restart but not turn off. Software is up to date on everything.

  • 3 less than year old voice Roku remotes all lost the voice command feature last night. If we use voice it freezes the Rokus and restarts it. Can only find the app and click on it. Have unplugged the Rokus. Have replaced the batteries. Have checked for updates. Have checked internet connections and systems. We would really like our voice feature back. Thank you

      Hello cmcnamara2023

Thanks for letting us know about the issue you're experiencing.

Could you tell us how are you powering your Roku device? Is it connected to the USB port of the TV or to a wall outlet? In some cases, the USB power provided by the TV is not sufficient to power the device. Even though your Roku device may appear to be working, running with insufficient power can lead to instability, crashing, and other unpredictable behavior.

Using the included power cord and power adapter, we suggest plugging your Roku into a working power outlet in the wall.

Let us know if there's any difference after.

      All the best,
      Kariza

This same issue is happening to my 3 Roku TVs since last night using Google Voice control. Has previously worked for 6 months no issues. Nothing has changed in my setup. Asking to turn a device on/off, the TV notification appears on the screen, then nothing happens until the TV reboots itself. There are many similar posts on reddit r/roku of people experiencing the same issue.

Same thing on my TCL Roku. It freezes when I tell it to do anything, then reboots the TV. I've reset everything except factory resetting my TV and it's still not working. What's even weirder, Alexa says I have 2 "Living Room Roku" devices now and 1 can have a power on/off and one doesn't. Wrote for actual help and outlined all the resetting/reconnecting/enabling/disabling and the reply was to tell me to do the first step I said I did. Totally ignored everything else I said about the oddities and all the steps I took.

      Hi thb,

      Thanks for the post.

We would be more than happy to investigate this issue for you, but need more details. Can you please provide us with the following information:
-Roku device model, serial number, device ID, and software OS/version (these can all be found in Settings > System > About)
-tracker ID when this issue occurs (when you see this issue occur, press the Home button 5 times, followed by the Back button 5 times, and provide us with this ID)
-steps to reproduce the issue you are seeing
-the image of the issue occurring so we can better understand the issue

Once we have this information, we will be able to pass it along to the appropriate Roku team to look into further.
