YouTube videos start black after latest update

Since the YouTube app update the other day (web_20241209_14_rc00) every time we start a video it just sits there on a black screen for about 5 seconds.  Usually it will play properly afterwards, but ...

My issue was different than the other one mentioned here - but additionally, they seem to have released a patch that fixed it (it was better yesterday, and I looked and the app version now starts with 20241211 instead of 20241209.
