Definitely a Youtube issue, your son is correct. I use Playlet (an alternative frontend for Youtube) instead of the Youtube app on my Roku devices and the shorts play just fine across the devices in my signature.

I have a Hisense TV with built-in Roku and have had this issue for the last few weeks. Usually if I go back and reply the video it works fine for that video but it still has the glitch about half the time

Additionally - I have forgotten to mention that if I let the short continue to replay at the warped speed and sound, eventually I lose ALL SOUND on every channel and have to reboot the Roku from splash screen.

Same problem. 😫
Model 4802X - Roku Ultra
Serial Number X01000EU4SCW
Software Version 14.5
Uptime 37 minutes (REBOOTED SEVERAL TIMES)
Device ID SODA244U4SCW
After a reboot second time video clip plays sometimes is slightly faster then third time is again at rapid speed. This maybe started about time of last update?

Yes. I have been having this problem for a couple of months. Guess I’ll just get rid of the Roku and try something else.

Well my son was by tonight to help me with a darned update to my Android phone that created an AI interface, (Google), that I could not bypass. He found a way around it in less that fifteen minutes. 😀
He's a software guru/engineer for a gaming community hosted on the other coast. 😎 🎮
According to him, he said that it's a YouTube problem as they write the APP and ROKU just hosts it. He said it's like a web page application that ROKU interprets it for display and functionality via the ROKU interface. 💻 📺
So we may all be complaining to the wrong people, then again, maybe it's the right people because they, ROKU, have the power to say YouTube/Google get your "excrement" together and fix the APP to work with our customer's equipment. ðŸ˜
