Where Are Independent Channels?
Where did the channels that offer language learning, old tv shows, old radio programs, tai chi, travel videos, et el?

Best way to find those may be to go to the online Roku Channel Store and do a Search for them. Sometimes keep the search simple and more results will pop up (ie. tai, how to, travel, etc)
Searching on the device is a mess and as you discovered, there is content/channels promoted by Roku that tend to bump out the smaller guys.
I use the online Channel Store to either search by keywords or category. https://channelstore.roku.com/browse?locale=en-us
There is also an independent, non-affiliated Roku-related website that is still updating the available channels/apps available called rokuguide. https://www.rokuguide.com/channels (can see all available by scrolling through them, sorting by date, category, etc.).
