Roku Ultra will not play High Resolution Music

I have an Anthem 1140 receiver with a Roku Ultra.  I use Plex on the Ultra for streaming and playing music and movies from my NAS.

A lot of my music is high resolution.  Much is 24/192 (2 channel) and 24/96 (multi channel).

All of these resolutions downsample.

As a note, I also have an NVidia Shield connected and it will play the high resolution audio with Kodi.  It also downsamples with Plex.

So, I don't know if this is a Plex issue or Roku issue, or both.

Is there any way to get this high resolution music to play properly on my Ultra?

Any advice is appreciated.

Roku devices just arent designed for expansive local media playback (USB/LAN), at least not in terms of maximum format/container/channel/bitrate compatibility/capability, and most of that limitation comes from RokuOS itself, with the rest being lacking licensing, especially for audio (e.g. such as for HD/lossless audio support).

You'll want to use your Shield (or other Android TV devices) if you want better HD/HiRes/lossless audio support for local media/streaming content.

You didnt mention which Ultra model you have, or the formats of your HiRes audio.

However, while the Realtek RTD1319 SoC that the 4800 (2020 Ultra) uses is capable of HiRes (and even lossless, as a licensing option, which Roku doesnt have for its players) audio output, RokuOS doesnt currently support it.

So no, you wont get HiRes playback/output out of your Ultra - you'll want to use your Shield for that (and lossless as well).

      Thank you for your reply.

      just to answer your questions....

As far as I know, this is the latest Ultra 4k box.  It was installed by my dealer in December....

As far as formats go, I tried many.  I ripped my SACD collection to DSF files.  Then I tried converting them to FLAC, then to WAV.

All of those formats would play, but NOT in high resolution.

As mentioned, the only combination i could find to play in high resolution was Kodi on the Shield.

Plex on the shield would down sample....
