Roku Express 4K will not work with my projector and Yamaha AVR!

I am streaming my Roku Express 4K through my Epson Cinema Series projector, Yamaha AVR. When I plug the Roku into the projector directly I get picture, etc - but have no sound. When I plug the Roku into my Yamaha AVR - I get sound but no picture.

Everything else we have connected (Cable receiver, blue ray) are plugged into the AVR and work fine - video from the projector with audio from surround sound. This not at all. HELP

Unfortunately no. This did not work for me. It will allow me to connect and pair the Roku remote, then nothing. No video. So frustrating. I was very much hoping to ditch overpriced cable tv.

Just to ensure it's not a problem with the Roku, can you connect it to a different TV and make sure it's working correctly? Again, I don't have any projector I can test with, but I do know that many people have successfully used Roku players with projectors. I realize you tested it directly on the projector. And that does seem to point to an issue with the issue passing through the AVR. Simply want to ensure the Roku is performing as it should.

While I don't have any projectors, I do have two Yamaha AVRs that have Roku players connected. The important thing to ensure is that that AVR is set for video passthrough, so it's not attempting to transcode the video in any way. Also, you might need to enter the "secret" menu at power up and change the Mode setting for full 4K passthrough. I always forget if Mode 1 or Mode 2 is necessary for full bandwidth 4k video, but you can simply try changing it from whatever it's currently set to.

Thank you! I will try this. We are new to AVR use. How do I get to the secret menu? Is the Video Passthrough just in the settings?

Video passthrough should be in the main settings. The hidden menu is entered by holding one of the front panel buttons while turning the AVR on. It's been so many years since I've done it, I can't recall the button. But I believe it's the "Straight" button. I just did a quick search online, and it appears that Mode 1 offers the most 4K/60 passthrough options, so that's probably the one you should use. On my older models, Mode 2 was set by default.
