Roku 4802X Ultra HDCP 2.2 Error 020

This morning my Roku 4802X Ultra, which has worked flawlessly for almost a year, started exhibiting the HDCP 2.2 Error 020 for ALL content including unprotected content. I have followed all the steps provided, all steps I could find in forum, checked for updates on both the Roku and TV, and have done multiple restarts. This issue is only on my Ultra and not my Premier or Stick devices. Details are the following:

Model:  4802X Roku Ultra

SN:  X01000005R9JW

SW Version:  13.1.14 Build 1510-C2

TV: Sony Bravia XR-65X93CL 4K VH22

HDMI Cable:   HDMI 2.1 48Gbps High-Speed, 8K@60Hz, 4K@120Hz

Tracker ID:  JW-355-119

Channels:  All channels. All content

  • Update the following day. Everything is working with no changes from the configuration described above. My guess is something was updated on the Roku yesterday / overnight that fixed the issue. I'll try to see in the system info screens if I can see a difference.

      Hi Sbellefeuille XMorth,

Thanks for posting in the Roku Community!

We are glad you are sharing about the issue with your Roku devices, which have an HDCP error 020. We will be happy to assist you with this.

Before we proceed, we'd like to know the following:

      • How long have you been experiencing this problem?
      • Have you tried other channels and seen the same error?
      • Does this always happen or occasionally?
      • Does it happen immediately after playing content or shortly after?

Here are a few things we can do to resolve the problem:

      1. Remove HDMI cable and power cycle both TV or AVR and Roku device
      2. Try a different HDMI port
      3. Try a different HDMI cable less than 6 feet
      4. Try another TV

If the issue persists, please let us know. Thanks!

      The Roku Community Team

When I attached this Roku unit onto my new Samsung 65" S90D OLED TV 3 weeks ago.  The TV has it's own streaming but my wife preferred the Roku system.  The problem occurred when I was using the TV to get to YoutubeTV as an App on the TV and switched over to the Roku to use the YoutubeTV App on that system.  As soon as I got into YoutubeTV and selected Live the error message was displayed.  Yet the TV app for YoutubeTV alone would work fine.  If I power reset the Roku system and came up in Roku to YoutubeTV.  This was consistent until yesterday.  Now all of a sudden, the problem is gone.  I had tried different 8K rated HDMI cables, different HDMI ports and recycling power, but always the same error before yesterday.  I am worried it might come back but for now it looks promising.  Thanks

  • I got a 2024 Roku Ultra for the holidays. Using the Roku supplied HDMI cable it was attached to my Denon X6700 AVR.

Intermittently the video stops and an HDCP error comes up. After a few seconds the video returns.

I had the same problem with the Roku Ultra I bought in 2021, which had the issue from day one.

    1) The problem is not solved by changing to a different HDMI port on the AVR.

    2) The problem is not solved by changing the HDMI cable.

    3) The problem is not solved by reseating the HDMI cable at both ends.

    4) The problem is not solved by directly connecting the Roku Ultra to my TV.

    5) The problem is not solved by rebooting the Roku.

    6) The problem is not solved by removing the Roku from power for a few minutes and then starting it back up.

    7) None of the suggested solutions on the Support Page work.

    Any other ideas?

I'm returning mine.  Solutions indicated don't work.  Returning the device solves the problem.

Randomly getting HDCP 2.2 Error 020 now. Directly connected to TV, doesn't matter if name brand cable or supplied cable. Only fix is to reboot the Roku, I'm not having to unplug the power, simple reboot. Software issue or hardware failing?

I've had it happen on Youtube, my wife says Paramount+, I'm not sure about Fubo yet.

This has just started in the last few weeks.

Already have a tried new cable, already have new TV (and thus another hdmi port), and if the supplied cable is too long, then why ship it..
