I just replaced a roku3 with a Roku ultra. we have 600mbit fiber with a direct Ethernet connection to the Roku. the Roku3 worked fine but was slow. The brand new Roku Ultra crashes after three seconds of the Netflix previews. It's right out of the box and fully updated but it can't run Netflix at all. That's inexcusable for their premium product. It's locked up and rebooted itself 3 times in the past 30 minutes. while typing this, I started Netflix moved the cursor to the first show and the Roku died.

Here's what I believe is happening: just like a PC it's overheating opening Netflix and Prime because they take up too much memory for the TV to handle. The preload is too much, hence the freezing and crashing. Resetting the TV won't fix the bloated apps.

The issue occurs nonstop. I watch dramas that have subtitles and what will happen is the video freezes completely, but the audio and subtitles continue to keep playing and then it crashes. Other times the video keeps going, and then the audio and subtitles freeze and then it crashes. I have had similar issues with Sling.tv app, crunchyroll, and Prime only on this Roku. My other ones work perfectly fine.

There's nothing to do, this reset that you teach doesn't work, it doesn't change anything, uninstall and install the app again.

So far this is the only thing that makes sense (re: markgeorg1234 about PC's over heating or being pushed beyond it's memory limits).More than likely whatever brands are making ROKU TV's have certain specs they follow. Of course they have no reason to over build so they build it with the exact amount of ram ROKU says they need. More than likely Netflix (the biggest culprit) eats up this memory faster than most other apps. So how can ROKU address this issue when all these manufacturers followed ROKU's specs? They can't! They're certainly not going to do a major recall and this is certainly not a firmware fix. I doubt Netflix or any of the other apps will change their requirements for memory requirements.So now what? Next step??Oh, ROKU knows, they're hoping this fades away, and people just buys up all the inventory until they can make new TV's. If everyone here didn't already do it, they should have gone and written a review on their TV. I know when I did, I couldn't find any reviews on the subject (in Walmart anyway), so get moving if you didn't?

    Yes, you guys have nailed it. It's a memory issue. I don't think Prime or Netflix are going to modify their bloatware, so we either have to add physical memory (I don't know if that's possible on these Roku sets.) or bite the bullet and buy a new TV.

WOW John, REALLY! We've all been complaining about this for months on end and you go and give this as a possible solution?

Let's face it, no one on your team is hardly taking this matter seriously at all and simply allowing us all to use this chat room to vent. Y'all probably just keep this place open so as to keep us all complaining under your own roof rather than us complaining out of your control!

Sooner or later, everyone will gather up the courage and come up with a way to get a class action going as this will be the only way to get y'all to reimburse us for all the grief we've endured, but maybe, just maybe get your company to pull your inventory off the store shelves!!

I took all these steps; and then had to create a new email; hard re-set; and the problem still exists with ALL of the Apps. If you take the following steps, you'll create an official "Issue report tracker" number. If they get enough reports, maybe they'll do something to correct the problem. Press Home 5 times then press back arrow 5 times. Get a picture or copy the ID number.

Really! A gamer cheat code to fix? Since this is a common issue a cash clear should be added to system/settings.

I too will not be buying a Roku TV.. the fact that Netflix, Prime and Peacock keep kicking me out. I have spent hours trying to contact support to no avail

Nope. I've tried all of that with my Sharp Roku TV. It worked fine until I want to say it was early this summer and there was an update. Since then, Netflix, HBO, Hulu, Britbox, Paramount, Roku Channel, and even YouTube occasionally would freeze and then kick us out. We cleared cache, reported the errors, tried switching off 4K, rebooting after unplugging, factory reset, and every other "It worked for me" solution. Nothing worked. I bought a Chromecast during the Black Friday sale and since then the TV has worked flawlessly on every channel. I shouldn't have had to purchase a streaming device to get my Roku TV to work, but that's what fixed it.
