You arent going to convince Roku not to promote its own new subscription service/app on its own RokuOS platform any more than you are going to convince MS not to promote its services/apps on its own Windows OS platform, or Google its services/apps on Android/Google TV OS, or Amazon its services/apps on FireTV OS, or LG its services/apps on WebOS, or Samsung its services/apps on Tizen OS, etc etc.
Expecting these companies not to leverage their own platform for their own apps/services is asinine (to say the least) and ignorant (you agreed to the app/service/content adding/modifying without your knowledge/consent when you agreed to Roku's account/device use Terms - which are relatively brief).
Yes it can be/is annoying, but its par for the course for all platform vendors that are also content/service providers - this is not a new behavior for Roku or any other platform+service/content vendor (they've all been doing it from the getgo for their platforms)
Best just to understand and acknowledge it for what it is and minimize your annoyance/hassle: In the case of the Howdy (or other Roku-provided service/functionality) app, simply stop removing it & add/move it to the end of your app tile list (it will stay there without causing app list 'chaos' elsewhere, unless/until you move it or the new UI with 'Quick Access' settings auto-re-arranges your app list for you, which you would then need to disable/change).
