How to stop the home screen add-ons

  • Is there a way to disable the random additions to the Home screen that appear almost weekly? Yeah, you can disable them in the settings but what if you don't want them appearing at all? No choice? This is just pushing me away from Roku. It's like when Netflix forced you to watch previews of any show you were highlighting. They finally added the option to turn that off. That's what we need here.
  • If you are referring to the recommended next search, then I believe that currently you cannot, although a number of people have complained about this to Roku, so maybe they will add that feature in the future.

  • @Justy74 I appreciate the post!

Thanks for giving us your thoughts on the home screen add-ons, I'm here to help!

First, please know that you can customize your ad preferences to choose what ads appear on your Roku's Home Screen and screensaver. This article provides instructions on how to change ad preferences and hide specific ads.

Yeah I will never buy another roku because of the annoyance. Home  screen stuff. Advertisements which is the very reason I got rid of cable tv. I didn't change over for cheaper costs. If people are going to display ads on my time, they will pay me for that time wasted, and bandwidth used.

This is why I took a raspberry pie setup and mod it to do everything any box can or run any app. Costs about 30 bucks for everything plus the remote.

Do you have that setup documented in a post somewhere? I would be interested in something like that!

      Thank you!

I want to stop the new channels constantly being added that I don't want.  I delete 15  of those channels and i STILL can't run Netflix because there are too many channels.  I have ROKU in two rental properties and I am TIRED of the problem.  PLEASE tell me how to stop these unrequested channels being added.

  • You can hide some of the recommendations and limit some of the ad content in the settings.

      1. For recommendation rows:

        1. Go to the side menu and select Settings
        2. Select Home screen
        3. Find Recommendation rows
        4. Click Okay on Hide

        For ads:

        Go to Settings

        Select Privacy

        Select Advertising

Check the box for Limit ad tracking

        Hide ads

You can hide specific ads on your Home Screen and replace them with other ads. To do this, you can:

        • Press OK
        • For sensitive ad content

Thanks for the clear and detailed answer. However, I'm talking about the add-ons that appear and unwanted tiles on your home screen and you have to go in and tell it to HIDE to get it off your screen. I don't want those ever. It should be an opt in if you want Rokus help to find something to watch.
