HBO Max app issue

I recently subscribed to HBOMax.   When I launch the HBOMax app, it redirects me to the HBOMAX.com/providers web page.  On that page, I am asked to select the provider for HBOMax, but when I select ROKU, it fails when trying to verify my subscription.    Any suggestions?

  • While Roku does have the ability to provide access to some premium providers (such as MAX), their agreement with the provider restricts them to only provide access through Roku. That's why you can't use a Roku subscription to log into the MAX website or use the MAX app. They are not a provider in the same way that a cable or satellite TV provider is. That's simply the way the agreements with Roku and the content providers work, and in some cases it works the same way on other devices. For maximum access to the content provider, its best to subscribe directly from the provider (in this case HBO MAX) unless you can get access from a different source that doesn't offer their own hardware like Roku, Amazon, Apple or Google do.

Do not believe any phone number posted in this forum or you may get scammed.   Roku is not considered a provider.  Log into HBOmax with the same email/password you used when you signed up for HBOMax.  Look for the sign in option to use your email/password.   Otherwise, a provider is when you have a streaming package, such as a cable provider like Spectrum/Comcast, that has HBOmax as part of their streaming package.

    See link below.

Thanks for your advise, although I still am somewhat confused.  If ROKU isn't considered a provider, then why do I see the subscription on the ROKU subscriptions page?     Then when I go to HBOMax and view my subscription, it shows as billed through ROKU.   Plus I can't stream anything when on the HBOMax site, it redirects me to a page to select my provider, which apparently I don't have.    Very confusing to me....

If you subscribe to HBO MAX directly with Roku, from what I understand you can only access it through The Roku Channel, not on the MAX app itself. I can't confirm that, as my MAX access is through my cellular plan, not Roku.

Thanks for the tip, I think that is what I am seeing.   I can't access any HBOMax content using the HBOMax app, or by logging onto HBOMax directly.    Let me see if I can verily that is the case.
