Solved

Apple TV all not loading.

My Apple TV app won't load; it just cycles back to the screen where I started. This is a new problem. I'm using a Roku Sharp TV. I've tried updating the app, as well as removing the channel and re-installing it. It says it is Version 8.1, Build 84. This was working fine until just recently.

When you removed it, did you reboot the Roku before you reinstalled it?

    1. Remove the app.
    2. Reboot the Roku. Don't turn it off and back on. Do a restart via the menu.
    3. Reinstall the app.

All three steps in that order.

  • There is a bug in Apple TV app causing this problem and rebooting the roku/reloading the app won't help. Sure it may help some, but many people have reported issues with the Apple TV app where most programs won't play but a random select few do.

This problem has existed for many months and why both Roku and Apple fail to acknowledge it is a mystery.

A fix has been been posted to change the HDMI audio setting. Roku has changed the menu structure so the previously posted directions can't be followed. To make the change using the new menu:

Settings —> Audio —> Digital output format —> Custom —> Dolby

So far this is the best solution for me. I made the change specified, then I tried several different shows I haven’t watched yet and every one loaded with no issues! Good find!

This solved the problem I had with Apple TV in Roku.

      Thanks!

  • Does anyone have another suggestion?
I have updated my Roku (4660 ultra), updated the channel, deleted the channel, did a restart from the system menu then reloaded Apple TV and nothing has helped. I don’t know what else to do. Any other ideas?

      Thanks for the post.

We would first try removing the channel from the Roku home screen by navigating to the channel tile, pressing the * key on your remote and choosing 'Remove channel'. Then restart your device from Settings>System>System restart. Once your player starts up again, add the channel back once more.

If you are still experiencing an issue, you'll want to contact the channel provider support directly to inquire further. Many channels on Roku are developed and maintained by the channel provider themselves.

      Thanks,

I have been talking to Apple support for the past month and they've found nothing after several requests.  They've told me to contact Roku support to get a problem case number and they would talk directly to Roku about it.  I don't have a whole lot of faith in this.  I've been made several promises and none have come through...

  • I just checked, and Apple TV is working just fine on the other 2 TVs in the house. The only difference is that the other 2 are Roku devices rather than the built-in version in the Sharp TV, but this problem just started on our "main" TV.

Same issue here. Some Apple+ programs load, some do not. No issues on any other Roku app.  I suspect that since this Roku is farthest from the wireless router, different programs have varying bandwidth needs, but that is just a guess.

      Thanks for the post.

For clarification, are you experiencing this issue with other Roku devices that are closer to your wireless router?

Please keep us posted and we will be able to assist you further.

      Thanks,

I have 2 Roku devices and neither one works on my Vizio TV which is further away from the router.  I did try them with my Samsung TV and they work fine.  It's a little closer to the router but is on the other side of a brick wall.  Both TV's show I'm getting a strong internet signal and I have no problem getting other apps (Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, Amazon and more).

RokuDanny-R I investigated the issue with Apple TV+ and narrowed down the cause - which is the Roku Ultra.

      1. I have multiple Roku devices - 2 sticks, 1 ultra

      2. Apple+ works perfectly on sticks.

      3. On Ultra, problem specific to some programs. Slow Horses doesn't work when starting a new episode. It does work for other TV programs, but random. Oddly it sometimes works when an episode is started on another Roku device and then picked up on the Ultra, but not always. Used to have a similar problem with other programs such as Ted Lasso, but seems to be working now.

      4. Not a bandwidth problem. Switched Ultra to Hotspot cellular and same problem.

      5. Restarting, and replacing the app does not solve the problem.

So issue is something with the Roku Ultra and interplay with Apple App, particularly when starting certain programs. Sounds odd given inconsistency between shows, but that is the behavior.

        Thanks for the posts.

If you are only experiencing this issue with Apple TV+, have you already tried contacting the channel provider to see what insight they can provide? Many channels on Roku are developed and maintained by the channel provider themselves.

Please keep us posted what you find out.

        Thanks,
        Danny

  • Purchase the content you wish to play on your Apple TV app on a mobile device & then it will appear under recently purchased in your Apple TV channel on Roku. Make sure both are signed into the same Apple ID.
