As long as you're renting the Wireless Gateway (that's what Xfinity calls it) from them ($14/month?) you are at their mercy regarding how it operates.
I use Xfinity Internet, but have my own modem and wireless router. It was an expense up front, but I dropped the $14/month rental and can set the router up as I please.
