New Roku Streaming Stick insufficient power and freezing

New Streaming Stick started complaining about insufficient power (from Roku power adapter) and freezing when streaming video from Amazon Prime, Netflix, and the Xfinity app. Replaced power adapter, which resolved "insufficient power" issue, but freezing continues. Rebooting the Roku allows the device to operate, normally, but is required at every attempt to use the device.

Re: New Roku Streaming Stick insufficient power and freezing

Hi @kevindsingleton,

Thanks for posting in the Roku Community!

I'm sorry to hear about the issue you're running into. We would like to know what went wrong so we can assist you further and fix the issue. Can you please provide us with more specific information about the issue you are experiencing? How are you powering the device? Is it plugged into the TV USB port, or is it plugged into the wall outlet? In addition, have you tried using another HDMI port on your TV as well as trying your device on another TV to see if you are seeing the same issue?

Please keep us posted and we'll continue assisting you from there.

Best regards,
Mary

Re: New Roku Streaming Stick insufficient power and freezing

@kevindsingleton-

If you are powering your Roku by plugging into the USB port on the TV, try powering from house power via the USB power adapter that came with the Roku.

The ports on many televisions only supply 0.5 amp or less, which is not enough to power a Roku reliably. It may appear to start up okay, but when it runs into something that requires more power than the tv's USB port can provide, something's got to give. Frequently this results in shutting down the stream you are viewing and exiting back to the Roku home screen.

If you don't have a Roku adapter handy, any other you have from another device should work as long as the fine print on it says it outputs at least 1 amp.
