I would think that when my camera has been unplugged (offline/not recording) and then plugged back in and rebooted, would be one of the first or most important things Smart Home would notify me of! I have set up security system to protect an area and if I was a thief to bypass being caught on the camera I would just unplug the camera and do the deed, plug back in while it restarts and leave! ( I am not a thief but unfortunately I have one in my presence, reason for the cam! So this exact tactic has been used over and over again to bypass the presence of the security camera! This makes having the camera almost pointless because since I never know when or if the camera has been unplugged unless I search through the entire days events to try and identify a break in time frames in recordings. The other security system utilized in my home which is a cheapppp brand with less options for viewing footage etc but even they offer the feature of being notified cam is offline. So moral of the story SMART HOME, PLEASE UPDATE SYSTEMS TO GIVE USERS THE ABILITY TO HAVE NOTIFICATIONS SENT WHEN CAMERA IS OFFLINE! It only makes sense! This is a major deterrent to using this system & aside from this I like Smart Home best!
Hi @Desireemcclaine,
Thanks for posting in the Roku Community!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feedback about the features of the Roku Smart Home app. We truly value your input regarding the ability to receive notifications when the camera goes offline. Rest assured, our Roku team will be aware of this.
However, it's important to clarify how the notification system works. Roku cameras are designed to send alerts only when they detect motion or specific events. This means that if the camera is offline, it will not be able to identify any activity and will, therefore, be unable to send you notifications.
We appreciate your understanding as we work to enhance the functionality of our products.
Cheers,
Riamie
