Want to buy MIL Roku for her non-smart TV. Do I just buy it off Amazon?

Jump to solution

Not sure how it works, but we want her to stop paying for cable because it’s so expensive. Do we just buy the HDMI plug-in and remote off Amazon? Any advice is helpful, thank you!

Hi @ernen,

It's great to see your first post in the Roku Community!

We understand you have an inquiry about how Roku works. Roku streaming makes it easy and affordable to watch what you love anytime you want. To get yourself set up, simply:

  • Power up your Roku device.
  • Plug in and connect your Roku player or TV to the internet.
  • Create a Roku account and activate your device.

Note: All Roku players and streaming sticks connect to your TV's HDMI port. Roku TV models have the Roku streaming experience built-in; no HDMI connection is needed. Also, Roku devices do not require a TV or cable subscription to work. However, please be aware that you cannot access all channels available on a Roku device, as some channels require an active TV or cable subscription.
