My Roku Ultra device, which is only 6 months old, suddenly stopped allowing me to play surround sound on my system. I bought a new one yesterday and I am having the same issue. All other connected devices allow surround. I suspect a problem with the latest update. Has anyone else had the same experience?
Nope, still get 5.1 here. But there's a setting you might be using that causes all sound to be two channel only. This is any of the "sound modes" such as night listening. Press the * button during playback and make certain you have no sound modes enabled.
@DiegoSteveIs the Roku plugged into an AVR and if not, what are you using for surround? Also wondering if you've checked audio settings which are ideally Auto for surround format, and Pass through. While I can't say the the Roku audio has EVER been great, I haven't noticed any discernible difference since the update last week
Hi Jontalk, Yes Ultra is plugged into amp. I think my 16 year old Yamaha amp couldn't hack the last update. Replaced it with a Denon AVRX2800H and it's now producing surround. When I first hooked Ultra up to the Denon I was also just getting front channels. Tried other components and same thing. Then I realized that I needed to use the Audyssey to set up the speakers first. I have front Klipsch speakers bi-amped and everything sounds great. However I found the only decent sounding surround I get with the Ultra is on multichannel stereo. Dolby is not sounding good but is excellent for other components though. That is fine for me.
