Roku setup

We've had a spare Roku Streaming Stick that we'd like to set up, but you need an official remote (or so we think) to get it connected to WiFi so we can use the app for a remote. We don't have a remote, but we were thinking there might be a way to get it working without a remote or if we need to buy a remote.

You need a remote and since sticks don't work with IR remotes you need a Roku Wi-Fi direct remote.  If the stick is purple just toss it as remotes are no longer made for them.  Otherwise:
