Roku app remote control does not work

Jump to solution

I have installed the Roku app on my Samsung Galaxy S9 FE+ tablet but the remote control does not work. In Settings > System > Advanced System Settings > Control by Mobile Apps I have tried both the Permissive and the Enabled setting and neither works. My Roku device uses a wired ethernet connection. The Roku device and the the tablet are on the same network and both use the same subnet, 192.168.0.xxx. My Rodu device is model 4200X. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Hi @Bazsl,

Welcome, and thanks for posting to the Roku Community!

We apologize for any inconvenience you've experienced with the Roku mobile app on your Samsung Galaxy S9 FE+ tablet, which is not working even after you take the necessary steps to resolve the issue.

In this case, we recommend you try these additional troubleshooting steps that may help to resolve the issue:

  • Restart your Roku device: To do this, you can either unplug the power cable, wait a moment, and then reconnect it, or use the following steps to restart it from the Settings menu by navigating to Home > Settings > System > Power > System restart. (If you do not see a Power submenu, skip to the next step.)
  • Restart the Roku mobile app: On an Android device, press the Recents button and then swipe the Roku app to close it.
  • Connect to your Roku device manually: Locate the IP address of your Roku device by going to Settings > Network > About, and then use the steps below to connect manually.
  1. Launch the Roku mobile app
  2. Tap Devices
  3. Tap Get help?
  4. Select Connect manually
  5. Enter the IP address of your Roku device and tap Connect

For more information and detailed instructions, refer to this support article: How to connect your phone to a Roku streaming device with the Roku mobile app.

Please keep us posted regarding the behavior you are experiencing, and we will be more than happy to continue assisting you further.
