Roku App- Private Listening

I just set up my TCL Roku TV Series 5 set. I downloaded the Roku app as well.

I am trying to do Private Listening using the remote feature within the app but the headphone icon has a red slash through it.

When I click on it, I get the following error message: Private Listening cannot start. Private Listening is not available for HDMI input Cable box

any suggestions on how to fix it or any thoughts on why it will not work will be appreciated.

thanks!

Re: Roku App- Private Listening

it should work as far as I can see. Something screwy with your settings.

Are you sure you have the Official Roku App on your Phone?

Maybe you have a funky HDMI cable or try another port.

Something should work.

Re: Roku App- Private Listening

Thanks for the reply Boogernose. It seems that Private Listening is cancelled out only when I connect to my cable box. It works when I’m not in that mode.
hdmi cable works in the other modes too.
do you know of any restrictions that Roku may have with Optimum cable provider that would prohibit the use of Private Listening when using one of their boxes?
Anyone else maybe know?

Re: Roku App- Private Listening

Same for me, and I use VERIZON FIOS.

There was an update announcement for the app which I updated. It worked the first time. The next time I tried to use it I received the error message.

Not sure what when wrong here?

Re: Roku App- Private Listening

I'm having a similar problem.  My Roku player is connected to my Onkyo A/V system and the A/V system    connects to the TV via an HDMI cable.  Through the app on my Android phone,  I can enable the private listening and the external speakers stop playing but a pop up screen in the app reads: *gaming not supported and no sound is heard through the bluetooth headphones connected to the phone.  Is this a bug or is my configuration not supported?
