https for Roku Soundbridge

The problem is known, as more stations are moving to https for the livestream (which is absolute BS).

I found another solution to overcome this, as I really love my Soundbridges.

For those who have an AVM Fritzbox, there is a possibility to setup an upnp dlna mediaserver which will also stream radiostations. It's pretty straightforward. You just have to enter the streamaddress and connect to the mediaserver of the Fritzbox. There you can connect to the required https stream.

The only disadvantage is, that you have to use the remote to connect. The webinterface does not support the required menus.

Re: https for Roku Soundbridge

We have another solution too. just updating the URL.
search for nginx roku soundbridge , see if you can find the instructions.

You don't have to install anything anywhere. just prefix the url of the radio station with a proxy.
Everytime I try to explain this fix here my post is edited and locked. So I can't give details. you have to find them.

Re: https for Roku Soundbridge

But I'll try again.
if your radio station uses https like
https://desertmountainbroadcasting.streamguys1.com/KBOZ-AM

replace "https://" with "http://www.opieproxy.com/roku/"

like this

http://www.opieproxy.com/roku/desertmountainbroadcasting.streamguys1.com/KBOZ-AM

opieproxy is a roku soundbridge proxy to convert https to http

It won't work for anything other than a SoundBridge.
If the URLS are missing from this post, I got moderated again.
come on guys! this is a valid resolution to a problem faced but the Roku Soundbridge community.
Is there a better place to post it?

Re: https for Roku Soundbridge

Are you really expecting Roku to release any sort of update for a device that was discontinued in 2008? They don't even support some products (Roku 4 for one) that were first released in 2015. I realize it's useful for a group of users, but it's not a something the company would expend limited capital on. The world today is video (for better or for worse), so that's the direction they have gone since '08.

Of Course not.
Was there something in this thread that made it seem like we did?
We are simply trying to share tips and tricks for keeping our beloved, albeit outdated, SoundBridges alive.

You're right, I overreached. I would agree this is the best place to exchange such information.

Re: https for Roku Soundbridge

Hi cfourrou,

I'll share this proxy with the Luxembourg Soundbridge community.

Me and my family, we do like the timeless design of the Soundbridge, which used to be a workhorse for playing Internet Radiostations from all over the world, for decades.

If a company like Roku does not understand that consumers do stick to their "obsolete" products, well, then this company is run by ignorants.

I do keep up with my beloved Soundbridges and I hope we can use them for some more decades!

Cheers: Serge from Luxembourg
