Prime Video no longer works on Roku Stick

Prime Video was working just fine up until a couple of weeks ago and it suddenly stopped. I want to know if there was a decommissioning of products recently.

If so of all the newer products that work with Prime Video, which one only works with an ethernet cable? I have found the stick with WIFI to be extremely slow. A dedicated wired connection is what I want. Please send me the information about newer model of streaming stick which only works with a wired connection.

Re: Prime Video no longer works on Roku Stick

@Jazeera2828-

Amazon has announced in emails to Roku owners that, effective November 1, 2021, their Prime Video would no longer support a number of older Roku models.

The model numbers affected are:

Roku 2 HD/XD/XS models 2050X, 2500X, 2720X, 3000X, 3100X
Roku LT models 2400X, 2450X, 2700X
Roku SE model 2710X
Roku Streaming Stick models 3400X, 3420X, 3500X

(The Xs or other letters at the end of the model number are distribution codes and are irrelevant for this issue.)

To check your model number use Roku menu path Settings / System / About

All of the models for which Amazon has dropped support are older models that are much slower than any of the current models.  Your slowness may not be due to wifi speed but to processing capacity.

If you want direct Ethernet connectivity, see this roku page for current models supporting Ethernet and additional information.

Re: Prime Video no longer works on Roku Stick

I have Roku 3810CA which appears to still be supported. I can watch movies but when i try to watch and episode of a series I get the message...

"Something went wrong

Please try again later. For more help, go to PrimeVideo.com/videohelp."

Its been doing this for at least 2 weeks. Anyone else experiencing this?

Re: Prime Video no longer works on Roku Stick

Hi @Ddgurl1979,

Welcome to the Roku Community!

We recommend starting here to troubleshoot channel issues: Follow these steps in order:
1. Navigate to the channel tile on the Roku home screen, press the * key on your remote, and choose 'Remove channel'.
2. Next, restart your device from Settings>System>System restart. (For Roku TV Settings>System>Power>System restart)
3. Once your player/TV starts up again, go to 'Streaming Channels' on the Home screen, and add the channel back once more.

If that still doesn't clear up the issue you're experiencing, we recommend contacting the channel provider directly to follow up for more help. They’ll be able to best assist with any issues that are occurring within their channel.

You can reach Amazon Prime Video support here: Amazon Prime support

Please keep us posted.

Regards,
Mary

Re: Prime Video no longer works on Roku Stick

This is stupid and annoying, why wouldn't they just have a deprecated version of the app on old Roku? Or better yet not change anything and just stop supporting it?  It's worse a dedicated Prime video button exists to infuriate me constantly with accidental presses.

Just further reason to cancel now bloated with ads, baiting stupid purchases, lame incentives, and iincreasingly expensive Amazon Prime membership.

These older models were in fact using a deprecated/legacy Prime app version for several years - Amazon finally decided to stop supporting it (in terms of allowing authentication/streaming).

Apart from the wisdom or not of such a decision (at some point providing streaming support for legacy app versions becomes reasonably problematic/cost prohibitive), obtaining a new Roku model isnt bank-breaking:  you can get an Express/Express 4K/SS 4K for $25/40/50 respectively.

If you go to https://my.roku.com/upgrade/  you may be able to get any of those models for even cheaper.

Re: Prime Video no longer works on Roku Stick

As a matter of fact, most Blu-ray players that initially had streaming VOD capability also no longer support Prime Video. This is because those players also used the legacy version of the app, from when it was previously named Amazon Instant Video. For the same reason, these older players also no longer support Netflix.  You could probably afford a Sony Blu-ray player that’s manufactured in the mid or late 2010s, but the apps on all the Blu-ray players are simply pre-loaded, and many of the apps may be completely outdated.  The Sony PlayStation 3 also has pre-loaded apps, and was discontinued in 2017, which was eleven years after it debuted in game stores, although software updates on that console are still in production.  ~ Jordan
