I have a TCL/65" (Roku) SmartTV, and same issue where the remote drains the battery constantly.  When not in use, I just take out the batteries until I have to use it again so it won't kill the batteries.

Not only does the remote drain the batteries excessively like having to replace them weekly, but after having replaced them several times and testing the old batteries, each time we find the batteries still have half their life remaining so the remote is not working with batteries at 50% or below as well.
