Replacement remote for Streaming Stick + (wifi) AND the non-smart Sharp TV?

Jump to solution

During the chaos of a major water leak and things put into boxes, we lost the remotes for both - the Streaming Stick + (wifi) and the Sharp non-smart TV.

Is there one voice remote that I can buy to solve this that is reasonable price?  Thank you.

For Roku Streaming Stick products, your replacement remote options are only the Roku Voice Remote ($20), or Voice Remote Pro ($30).  Both are available from Roku and many retailers.  These connect to Streaming Sticks via WiFi because sticks are usually used behind the TV where infrared (IR) can't reach.  You need these Roku remotes because I know of no 3rd party remotes for these models.

These are dual remotes that can provide limited TV control (power, volume, mute) to many TV brands via IR.

No, the only direct tv controls are a power on/off toggle, volume up/down, and mute toggle on/off.  Roku remotes cannot directly control the TV's input/source control.  BUT, the TV itself may do some of this for you.  To turn this feature on in your Roku, enable "1-touch play" via Roku menu path "Settings > System > Control other devices".

If your TV supports CEC (Consumer Electronic Control) over HDMI, turn on this feature in your TV settings.

Unfortunately many tv manufacturers call this feature by their own proprietary names.

Some common ones:
• AOC: E-link
• Hitachi: HDMI-CEC
• LG: SimpLink or SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC)
• Mitsubishi: NetCommand for HDMI, Realink for HDMI
• Panasonic: VIERA Link, HDAVI Control, EZ-Sync
• Onkyo: RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI)
• Philips: EasyLink
• Pioneer: Kuro Link
• Runco International: RuncoLink
• Samsung: Anynet+
• Sharp: Aquos Link
• Sony: BRAVIA Link, BRAVIA Sync, Control for HDMI
• Toshiba: CE-Link, Regza Link

Some other names shared by multiple manufacturers:
• Fun-Link, INlink, T-Link

On some TV's you may need to have the TV do a scan or search for connected CEC devices.

With CEC enabled on the TV, pressing a Roku control button on your Roku remote (not the power, volume, or mute buttons if you have them, because they act on the TV not the Roku) "One-touch play" should wake the TV from a standby state if necessary and switch the TV to the HDMI port to which your Roku is connected, without you having to do it via the TV remote.

Note: If other connected devices (game console, cable box, disk player, etc) also have a CEC function, pressing a button on the their remotes may also switch the TV to their TV inputs.

does the Roku replacement remote allow you to control settings on your TV like "Input" (selecting HDMI port) Set up etc. Hoping to get down to one remote for both at this point since both the non-smart TV and Roku stick + remote were lost.

Hi @RangerRickey,

Thank you for posting here in the Roku Community!

We value your inquiry and interest in using the Roku remote. Please be advised that the Roku remote can only control your Roku device. When navigating the settings or inputs on your non-Roku TV, you will need to use your regular TV remote for that.

Please let us know if you have further queries, and we'll be glad to assist you.

Kind regards,                                                                                                                                        Eunice
