Power outage caused sound bar to stop accepting Roku remote volume inputs

Set up:  Roku streaming box connected via hdmi to a Samsung tv.  Tv is connected optically to a ubl soundbar.

Prior to a very quick power outage my Roku remote would control the sound bar without issue, a set up that had been working without fail for six months.

After the power outage, all devices function exactly the same except for being able to control the sound volume via the Roku remote.

Things that have been checked:

No changes were made on the TV (no new updates, no different settings on the TV itself from before/after the outage, no new cables added)

No changes were made on the Roku streaming box (no new updates, no different settings on the Roku box itself from before/after the outage, no new cables added)

Samsung TV - optic sound, which I promise was working fine for many months before the outage.

Steps that have been tried without positive results:

reboot everything

remove and reset all cables

seek software updates for everything

new batteries in all Roku remotes

@Rvanhorn

Thanks for the post.

Please be aware that Roku device remotes do not support control over external audio devices that are not Roku devices (ie. AVRs, soundbars, wireless speakers)

Thanks,
Danny

Re: Power outage caused sound bar to stop accepting Roku remote volume inputs

It sounds like you have done a thorough troubleshooting of the issue. Here are a few additional things you can try to resolve the problem:

  1. Check the settings on your soundbar. Some soundbars have a setting that allows you to turn off the ability to control the volume with a remote. Make sure this setting is not enabled.

  2. Check the settings on your TV. Some TVs have a setting that allows you to turn off the ability to control the volume with a remote. Make sure this setting is not enabled.

  3. Check the settings on your Roku streaming box. Some streaming boxes have a setting that allows you to turn off the ability to control the volume with a remote. Make sure this setting is not enabled.

  4. Reset the soundbar to its factory settings. This can sometimes resolve issues with the soundbar not responding to the remote. Keep in mind that this will erase all your personal settings, so you will need to set up the soundbar again from scratch.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it is possible that there is a hardware issue with the soundbar or a problem with the connection between the soundbar and the TV. In that case, you may need to contact the manufacturer of the soundbar for further assistance.
