For some of us just download the Roku app. Consider it a backup. It works for me fine but for many of us, its not the same as having our clicker nearby.
Better than not being able to right click - sounds like a dating app.
Later,
I have paid for a 4K Dolby Vision stick that comes with a remote control. That paid for remote should last longer than 2 weeks, when used under normal conditions. I should NOT have to rely on an app installed on my 'phone, which sucks up private personal data that ROKU sells on to 3rd parties, to use the 4K streaming stick and I should certainly not have to buy a new remote every **bleep** month. ROKU's remotes are shoddily made, cheap rubbish that fail after several weeks of normal use. It's an utter disgrace and, environmentally speaking, a disaster when it comes to sustainability.
I fully expect the new remote I've started using this evening to fail within a month, just like the other 5 have. I no longer have any faith in ROKU's products or in its non existent technical and customer support.
When this remote fails, as it will, it's bin time for the **bleep** 4K ROKU Dolby Vision stick with non working remote and HELLO to either NVidia Shield, Apple TV or Google Streaming 4K. I'll not be recommending ROKU's sub-standard products to anyone, they're that bad.
If that reply was for me. I have had my TCL Roku TV set for 3-4 years and just today had a problem with my remote. Actually my remote works, somehow the code that the remote sends to my set doesn't engage the settings display so I can adjust things like brightness and such. Im a consumer that gave an option to those that possibly didn't know that that option existed. Im lucky that my remote didnt break, but is it likely that you are a bit rough on your remote. Mine has the expected erosion and wear of the printing on the keys - proof that the remote has been working fine - but works. I have a different issue that my fix for the other issue doesnt work for. Not getting into how data is monetized as all data is, from all manufacturers. Dont know which to worry about more, I bet that this communication tells more about individuals than an invisible - possibly - data exchange from a remote app on a phone that must be connected to a cellular service that "has to have" personalized information about so it can work. Same with broadband. It comes down to what companies you are ok with having your data than get up in arms about it happening at all.
Do you really treat your remote to not breaK
I can assure you than none of the ROKU remotes I have purchased have been treated in a rough manner, so your assumption that rough handling may be the cause of this issue is completely incorrect. All have had one careful user, that user being myself.
It strikes me as being more than suspicious that every ROKU remote I have purchased has had the same defect. That defect being the > button stopping working after sometimes just 2 weeks of normal, careful use. This is either a design fault or a production fault. The complaints here from others, who also are experiencing this identical problem, throws your assumption of rough handling of any remote out of the window. The malfunctioning of the > button seems to be a generic defect.
As I stated earlier, these remotes are of exceptonal poor quality and ROKU seem to have no idea what quality control during the design/ production process means. ROKU replacement voice controlled remotes for their 4K Dolby Vision stick are shoddily made junk.
I have the same problems with my remote. Remote shows as 100% charged but certain buttons do not work. How ever. If I connect the charger all the buttons work.
My assumption was a guess because after 3-4 years mine still works fine. I guess there is a difference between TCL/Roku remotes and the generic versions. As a final attempt to present some solutions there are after market universal and Roku remotes that might give a better experience than buying another generic, prone to breaking Roku remote. If you have a lot of electronic gear, its likely a better solution as the new universal remotes are said to be better than a couple of generations ago. Ive read good things about Sofabatons and Logitech universals. "Buy-in" costs more but if you are constantly buying Roku's, the final cost should be lower. Buy once and forget about another purchase. As an extras, you now have a remote that will control your other devices also.
Good luck. I never realized I had such better experience than others about the same gear. So I guess i will keep my remote unless I want a universal.
Hope Roku management reads this thread.
I've had the same issue for the past 8-9 months. Until I found this thread I thought that it was me. Roku, please help.
