After the latest update my roku ultra does not operate via IP remote. Why? Is this more planned obsolescence?
I have 7 Roku streaming sticks in my house, 4 of which are controlled by Logitech Harmony Hubs. Two of the 4 have updated to 14.1.4:7708 on 12/13/24. The 14.1.4:7708 update does not work with the Harmony Hubs, and will only work with the Roku remote. The previous Roku software versions have worked fine. All other devices controlled by these Harmony hubs work fine (HDTV, home theater, DVD, Bluetooth)
I’ve tried rebooting the harmony hubs, rebooting the Rokus, power cycle both, and controlling via the Harmony app on my iPhone. None of the troubleshooting has worked. Is there a solution for this?
Location | Roku Type | Last Update (as of 12/14/24) | Current Software Version | Works with Harmony Hub Remote | Works with Harmony iPhone App | Works with Roku Remote |
Master Bedroom 1 | 3820R2 – Streaming Stick 4K | 12/13/24 2:59pm | 14.1.4:7708 | No | No | Yes |
Recreation Room | 3810X – Roku Streaming Stick+ | 12/13/24 2:34am | 14.1.4:7708 | No | No | Yes |
Master Bedroom 2 | 3810X – Roku Streaming Stick+ | 10/18/24 10:27pm | 14.0.4:12221 | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Family Room | 3820R2 – Streaming Stick 4K | 11/15/24 5:00pm | 14.0.4:12221 | Yes | Yes | Yes |
After last night's update I can no longer control my Ultra with IP commands. The only control that works is IR now. Did you get rid of IP control? If so why on earth?
Also, when I scan for network devices it can't find the Roku Ultra on my network. It finds all the Roku sticks and none of those have been updated to this latest software. The latest update has broken control over wifi/network
You aren't alone - I'm been Googling frantically because I lost control of my Roku Ultra using the Sofabaton X1S remote and hub yesterday. I'm flipping out because I've only had the X1S system for around three weeks. Maybe there is some obscure way to roll the Roku update back. And maybe I should hold off on returning my X1S. If it is happening to Harmony also, then it doesn't matter which hub I use. If Roku personnel monitor these threads - HELP!!
UPDATE: I found a post on Reddit that mentioned a new (or previously unimportant) setting on the Roku:
"...there is a setting in Advanced System Settings on the Roku called Control With Mobile Apps. This was set to Limited and it wouldn't work. I set it to permissive and that fixed it."
My Roku had the same "Limited" default setting. I set it to "Permissive" and it worked again. Unfortunately in my case I had to delete the device again AND the activity for watching TV and create them again. I don't know if that is because I messed with it so much last night. The Harmony might be kinder. But have a look at that setting on your Roku(s) and see if this helps.
I hope it helps - enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Remotes or subject could be software updates. We have a fairly new LG 4k TV which has a Roku HDMi streaming stick attached to it. Our LG TV remotes have been set up to control the Roku device. It worked great until today. Checked my TV settings which are all good. My guess is that Roku software update broke it. I can provide details if needed. Can Roku folks look into this?
Tnanks
I had the same issue starting yesterday. But before I found the "fix" above, I had deleted my Roku Ultra and associated Watch Roku activity from my Harmony. I added the Roku back and re-setup the activity. The issue I now have is that all of the Roku "channel" icons only show up as boxes with numbers in them on my Harmony - both on the remote itself and on the Harmony app on my iPhone. I have rescanned several times and still not getting the graphic icons to show up. I contacted Logitech and was on a chat with them for quite some time this morning trying several of their suggestions, but nothing resolved the issue. They "escalated" the issue within Logitech. I'll see what they come back with if anything. Now wondering if the issue could possibly be with Roku and the 14.1 update??
Do you have CEC enabled on your TV and your Roku? I have no issues with my Ultra remote controlling my LG, and it's all via CEC. I have never configured the remote for IR control of the TV.
I forget how LG labels there CEC function, so you'll need to look it up. On the Roku it's called One-touch play. I don't believe Roku has rolled out an update in the past few days, but perhaps your TV got an update that turned CEC off.
