After inserting Micro SD card remote buttons do not work thus I cannot select Format option.

After inserting card I get the screen that gives me two options Format or Cancel. Cancel is highlighted. I cannot move to Format because all of the buttons on my remote fail to function.

If I remove the card, the remote works fine.

Have you tried using the Roku app on your mobile device as a remote for this?

I appreciate your help.  That worked and the app works nicely however my remote no longer works unless I take the card out.

I don’t want to give up use of my remote. Can I get both to work at the same time?

I was hoping that once you completed the format, that the card would then allow things to work. Seems that's not the case.

Roku only uses 2 GB of a microSD card. In fact, Roku sells microSD cards for the devices that support them, and they only sell the 2 GB size cards. Are you using a larger card? There's no benefit to using a larger card, as it won't actually utilize the larger size.

Try formatting the card in your computer, if it has a card reader that can handle SD cards. After formatting, see if the Roku will detect and reformat the card successfully.

Also, see if this post helps: https://community.roku.com/t5/Remotes-Accessories/Added-SD-Card-Remote-no-longer-works/m-p/646676#M1...

Windows instructions, don't know what would differ on other systems:
Do a slow (i.e. not "fast") format of the card via your computer. Select FAT32 and select it to use the default allocation size.

I used to have a Roku 3 that used an SD card.  Apparently something caused the card to be corrupted occasionally. I could format the card in my PC as described above and I could get the Roku working with the card again.  After about the third time of going through this I just decided the card was more trouble than it was worth and just left it out.
