Screen reader not turning off

I did the system restart, it didn't help. What else can I try?

  • Hi Putzr50,

    Greetings from the Roku Community!

We'll be glad to assist you with turning off the screen reader on your Roku device. The screen reader can be turned on or off by pressing the Star (*) button on the Roku remote four times quickly. You can also customize your screen reader experience by going to Settings, then Accessibility, Screen Reader, and then turning the screen reader on or off.

For more details, check out this support article on how to enable the text-to-speech screen reader on your Roku streaming device.

    Kind regards,
    Eunice

Your solutions do not work. My screen reader is disabled but is still on. I powered down the Roku and the screen reader is still on though disabled. The normal screen reader controls are not working.

Jimbob3, are you trying to say with the Roku device "powered down" (not sure what that means since only Roku TVs can be turned off) you're still hearing a voice?  Some TVs have their own implementation of a "screen reader".

These steps do not work and it’s very frustrating.

DrACWhich steps for which problem? Many of the people in this thread are getting volume announcements from a TV connected to a Roku. If that is the problem you are having, you need to turn that off in your TV. It is not your Roku that is announcing those.
