The Dispute Resolution update is on my TV screen. It asks that I Agree or select * to see the Terms. I can do neither, I have tried turning the TV on and off but nothing. Can anyone help, I have waited on Support for nearly an hour and no response.

Another thread going on here https://community.roku.com/t5/Community-discussions/Roku-disables-player-with-attempt-to-coerce-arbitration-agreement/td-p/950649.
atc98092 indicated pressing the Home button on the remote a few times worked to exit this screen without agreeing.
I saw a few online postings that restarting the network also helped clear this from the screen when this first started happening a few days ago.

None of the suggestions resolved the problem of bypassing the screen without agreeing to the terms, infringing upon my consumer rights. I firmly reject the agreement, and if it were merely a Roku stream, disposal would be a simple option. However, considering that my main TV integrates Roku, this scenario not only undermines consumer rights but also constitutes a violation of fair practices in consumer relations.

If enough people refused to agree, it might go away as it's not fair to consumers.

How do we decline??

Roku seems to be on the way out.

Send a note to their counsel telling them how underhanded this is: generalcounsel@roku.com

I tried that also, you cannot get out of the moving background either. One cannot use the TV for anything.

How did you fix this? I’ve tried restarting, disconnecting, using app, but still nothing.
- Smooty2 years agoReel Rookie
I was able to fix by removing the sound bar and reconnecting the old Roku stick and remote. I haven’t tried reconnecting the sound bar yet but since I was able to “agree” it should be ok. Good luck.

I opened a chat about this yesterday. No one there knew what I was talking about, even with a photo of my TV screen with paragraph 1(L) showing. The rep said he was going to transfer me to someone else and then the screen stayed unchanged for over two hours. I closed it. I also sent a message on the Roku Facebook page and she did not know what I was talking about either. My interpretation of the notice is that even if you hit the "agree" button to clear it you still have 30 days to send a snail mail letter under paragraph 1(L) to notify them you are opting out of the alternative dispute resolution. This is what we called a contract of adhesion in law school and they are often unenforceable when challenged in court because the other party has no choice but to agree to it. Roku is using duress on its customers by cutting off their access to the programming they have already paid for unless they agree to this alternative method.

The contacts page shows a legal department email address as generalcounsel@roku.com . I sent them an email about this, but I haven't received a response.

It is really about coercion- when i called roku support, he said I must click agree or it will no longer work. After 30 minutes arguing and asking for his supervisor, he told me to unplug everything from the tv, wait 10 seconds, plug everything back in and power up. Now it works as it should. This tech guy knew this all along, but the roku company told them to string their customers along until the end.

Yes, it's real BS! I called my 2 roku tv manufacturers this morning and let them know I will never buy another roku television from them. The only agreement i ever agreed to was when i bought them, and now the tv's i bought are useless if i don't accept.

Well done.
Also, they have us right where they want us. I actually saw a broadcast where the "elites" were contemplating how to (essentially) enslave the rest of the population. One responded by saying something along the lines of "that's easy, we'll get them focused on "something" "and held up his phone.
Look around you...everyone is constantly staring at their phones. Roku and all other companies know this and are hedging their bets that we'll accept their nonsense so that we can continue to watch their **bleep**. Why not stop watching TV (garbage) and go outside. Exercise, start a hobby, volunteer or read a book!
Also, do not invest in products that rely or "cooperate" with other products to function properly. In many cases, smart TVs that come complete with Roku or other streaming services will push their self-serving nonsense on the consumer and because you have made an investment in that product, you most likely will not decline. Keep your eyes open and your options favorable to the consumer.

I was finally able to bypass the agree page and have access to my TV. Unplug tv and remove batteries from remote for 2 minutes. Try to click * to agree. If that doesn’t work download the Roku app on your phone ( Roku will be in purple letters with a white background) once you have the app click to accept agree. This worked for me!

My remote will not agree or use * Did you get the issue resolved ?
