Re: Parent Controls for Home Screen Ads

Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting in the Roku Community!

While we can't please everyone with the ads that are displayed, we do strive to avoid offensive images and other things that Roku users might not agree with. I'll forward your comments to our advertising department for review.

We appreciate your patience and we are working diligently to provide our customers with the best streaming experience.

Best regards,
Mary

I have been a very active Roku user but this is getting out of hand. I am tired of seeing half naked people on the screen or bloody knives popping up. I was planning on buying two more Roku wireless speakers and a sub. to go with my other two speakers and sound bar. I will not be doing that instead I will be cancelling my Roku subscription and be moving to Chrome cast. There should be a family friendly option to say the least.

Brian BB - I am not very familiar with Chromecast. Can you filter the content displayed when you open the program?

I want to switch from Roku but only if it solves the problem of inappropriate material being displayed for my kids (without an option for me to filter/ban certain content)....thanks for helping educate us!!

I could care less how people want to dress, or behave themselves. But I don't enjoy seeing this (ATTACHED AD BELOW) every time I'm on my home screen. I purchased two Roku devices recently and I'm very disappointed that there is no way to prevent obscene ads from being displayed. It wouldn't be as big of an issue if the ad wasn't so prominent but it takes up a THIRD of the screen! A simple solution would be to allow users to filter out ads of adult nature.p197358_b_v12_az.jpg

You try!? Start with not presenting pornographic images on devices potentially used by children. You guys are unreal

The search function is a joke. Try looking for “teenage”, as in, teenage mutant ninja turtles. We’re done with Roku immediately.

I just ordered mine and will reply back with the pros. I did hear that you can create a child friendly profile and add the apps that you want there. The child's profile will only display child friendly content. But that is what I heard I am not positive since I have not yet received it or set it up.

Re: Parent Controls for Home Screen Ads

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the inquiry.

Please be noted that Roku streaming device does not offer a global parental control setting to restrict access to content across all streaming channels, but you can configure access limits based on ratings in certain situations such as those described below:

  • Set up ratings-based playback restrictions within The Roku Channel
  • Set up built-in parental control features on other popular streaming channels that offer these features
  • Configure your Roku TV™ to restrict viewing of programs on "over-the-air" broadcast television

Here's a link to our support page to find out more about the feature: How to block content using parental controls | Official Roku Support

We appreciate your patience with this matter!

Best regards,
Mary

What patience? You all seem way more interested in your ad revenue than to provide a good service.

You have not addressed the issue everyone has here: Parental control for HOME SCREEN ADS. You know... the ads that anyone using a Roku will see because it takes up a third of the screen! There is no way to restrict inappropriate or disgusting ads from showing up there.

This isn't difficult. FIX THE ISSUE! Either only carry ads on the home screen that are not wildly inappropriate or provide parental controls for them.

Hello everyone yes I can confirm that Chromecast TV is exactly what we are looking for. I have set up a kids account on the the Chromecast TV and there are no ads at all that I am concerned with. There is a lock code so that my boss are not able to leave the kids account and access unwanted material. I'll even be using the kids account so I don't have to see all that stuff also. Thanks Google Chromecast, see you never again round. I will be sure to close my roku account also.
