Re: Tv guide goes to recents when opening channel guide

Jump to solution

I found that the issue lies within the last update by talking to the TCL tv customer support and going through all they could do it was determined it had to be your (roku) most recent update

In addition to that, when you move to all channels, the channel you are watching should be highlighted and showing.

Currently when you do open ALL Channels, it doesn't even default to the channel I am on... every single time.

I have the clock issue too, but I think it may show the time you turned on the tv in the channel guide spot, but only update it on the ROKU screen timer.  Its crazy.

Re: Tv guide goes to recents when opening channel guide

***To the Roku employees following this thread*** Below, I will reiterate the most satisfactory, straightforward solutions to the issue(s) being raised in this thread (and others), for you to - hopefully and please - pass along to the appropriate Roku department/dev team. The following is quite simple and straightforward;

1). When opening the "Live TV" channel guide (left < click), the default behavior should always be to automatically open into whatever channel category was last being watched/used. Period!

If a user was watching a program from the "All Channels" category, then it should open the "All Channels" guide. If they were watching from "Favorites", then it should open the "Favorites" guide. If "Recents", or "Comedy", "Recommended", "Sports", etc... whichever guide category was last being used/a program selected from - it should always open again into that same category of the guide. This is the simplest, most intuitive and desirable behavior, and would **automatically honor every user's desired category selection** without any additional digging/clicking through settings menus, adjacent columns, etc. Everybody's happy.

2). The guide must always open with the white highlight (cursor) directly on the channel/program currently being watched - not in any other column, such as the "category" column where the guide is currently (and unfortunately) opening. Again... period!  This was the default guide behavior prior to this last unfavorable update, is by far the most appropriate, desirable behavior and should not have been changed, and a major reason driving the complaints in this thread.

These above two straightforward changes would satisfy the complaints here and streamline the overall useability of the current channel guide - making for a far more pleasant user experience than it is now. Simple!

I have not watched any ota tv or the roku channel in a couple of days. Wonder if the people who keep up with their stats are feeling any heat from this monumental screw up?

Roku device model (TCL TV) 55 S 535
Serial number X00300Y3WCSP
Device ID S05NY1A3WCSP
Software OS/version 12.0.0 build 4182-88
Does this issue occur on a specific channel? No

What are the steps to reproduce the issue you are seeing?

Steps to reproduce: example #1
(1) turn on the TV
(2) navigate to "Live TV" & select
(3) immediately upon entering into the guide the focus of the guide is on the "Recents" category.
(4) Tracker ID SP-370-087

Steps to reproduce: example #2
(1) While watching streaming channel #293
(2) Navigate 'left' to display the guide
(3) The guide takes the user to "Recents"
(4) Tracker ID SP-370-085

Issue: The user in these examples is watching streaming channel #293. When calling up the guide the user is being taken automatically to the "Recents" category. If the user decided to review the guide, perhaps looking for an upcoming show, somewhere near #300 thru #350 (as an example) this would be the navigation...
(1) While watching #293
(2) Navigate 'left' to display the guide
(3) From the "Recents" category
(4) Navigate to "All Channels" or "Favorites"
(5) The guide starts at the lowest channel number "3.1"
(6) The user must scroll down through the guide all the way to #300, 301, 302, etc.

This is unacceptable navigation. As you can imagine the guide is very very long and going from "3.1" to "300" is an extreme amount of navigation by the user.

Expected behavior:
(1) The user while watching ANY channel
(2) Navigate 'left' to display the guide
(3) The guide should focus on the currently selected channel number
(The corresponding category MAY be highlighted to also represent where the user was in the guide as an aid to navigation.)
(4) The user should be able to navigate up and down the guide to review what is offered on other adjacent channels.
(The user MAY choose to further navigate onto the category column to work with the guide via a chosen category.)

Simply put the guide should be working as it did prior to the most recent update.
This should be considered a critical fix.
