Roku TV Wrong Time Zone & No Way to Correct

I have a brand new 32” TCL Roku TV (Roku TV 8122X, TCL model 32S335, software ver. 9.4.2 build 4195-48).

I have a solid wifi and Internet connection and the device seems to work fine.  EXCEPT it WILL NOT display the correct time.

I am in Northern California in the Pacific time zone.  This tv is showing Eastern time.  Right now, the TV (and the OTA channel guide) displays 9:24 pm, but it’s 6:24 pm.  And there is no way I can find to change/set/adjust the time.  I’ve been through every menu, and there just is no time nor time zone setting.

This is UNACCEPTABLE and problematic.  Please advise how to correct this problem.

I had to factory reset mine 4-5 times and then it finally worked correctly.

  • I just fixed my time zone problem. Push the homme button 5x then the ff button 3x and the rewind button 2x a menu will pop up and choose software update. I had to do the process 2x the 1st time the time changed but wasn't correct so I did it again and the correct time displayed

  • You may have already seen this but I just did it and it worked for me do this “home (5 times) FF (3x) REW (2x)” this will take you to a, I think manufacturers menu, anyway I scrolled down to update hit that they stated I was updating to the same update I did it anyway, my tv then reset itself and everything is fine now. I hope you understand what I’m trying to explain to you, that’s more on my directions than on your understanding it. Good luck.

      Hi, idstealer000 .

I tried this. It's cool that you can access a "Secret Screen" within the Roku menu directory, but unfortunately it didn't update my clock, so I'm still reading Pacific Time even though I'm in Mountain Time.

  • Here is how you fix it. Settings. System. Power. System Restart.

The menu on the TV that is being discussed on this message thread does not have the options you are advising. There is no "time" function. There is no "System Restart" function. The problem with this TV is that a number of crucial features are missing from the menu options. That is why we are all complaining. Not because we are idiots that don't understand how to change the time in a menu setting, but because the menu is incomplete and does not have the features of a regular Roku device.

Everyone replying with a simple "System Update-System Restart" or "Set Time" comment needs to read the previous comments. It's simply not that simple, those options aren't available on this TV for some reason and that is the root of the problem, not the solution.

Roku's customer support on this issue has been atrocious, at best, and more like non-existent.  It took me days to resolve this problem, without any help whatsoever from Roku.

Why on earth this TV has a different version of the Roku OS, that is handcuffed in this way, is beyond me.  I ultimately ended up having to do multiple factory resets until finally, finally, the problem resolved itself.  If my significant other didn't like Roku so much for this TV (we actually have 2 of these Roku TVs in our RV), I'd have switched to Amazon FireTV Stick 4K streamers like all of the TVs at the house.  Not that they're perfect – far from it – but at least they work properly for me.

I am having the same issue and System Restart does not work to fix it.

The TV time is correct, but the channel line up time and date are very wrong! 2002 in fact!  I can't change it. System Restart fixes it for about 3 seconds and then it reverts to 2002.  How do I correct this?  I've been trying to fix it for weeks.  Getting ready to throw the TV away!

As I mentioned in my original post, there is no option for “time” settings within either the settings menu nor the advanced settings option.

So unfortunately, your support page (which I previously read) doesn’t help at all.

I have the exact same problem. It’s absolutely ludicrous that in the year 2021 a smart TV would be lacking one of the most basic functions, the ability to set the time.

So disappointing. And obviously, by the tone and cluelessness of her response, RokuMary-F doesn’t care to help solve the problem, or even fully read the question you posted.

I've already responded once to report that this particular TV has no "time" settings options whatsoever.  No options for 12-hour vs. 24-hour.  No options to set time zone.  I've specified my zip code, but that's made no difference whatsoever to the clock settings.

In other words, there is no:  Home > Settings > System > Time > Clock option.  I can drill down to "system" but there simply is no "time" option.

So HOW does a customer fix a problem with the clock?  The lack of a supplemental reply tells me that the answer must simply be, "you can't."  How is that acceptable, when part of the TV's functionality relies on the clock settings (e.g. live tv guide)??

This is EXACTLY the issue I am having. Has this been addressed anywhere?

  • I live in West Virginia and i can't remember what the time zone is suppose to be on. Is it supposed to be on eastern time or pacific?
