Update to our customers: We've agreed to a multi-year extension w/ Google for YouTube + YouTube TV

Hey Streamers!

Roku and Google have agreed to a multi-year extension for both YouTube and YouTube TV. Roku is committed to reaching agreements that provide you with access to content on the platform of your choice. We are pleased that this agreement makes both YouTube and YouTube TV available for all streamers on the Roku platform.

You can learn more at: https://www.roku.com/blog/update-on-youtube-tv

YouTube TV can now be found in search on your Roku device and on the online channel store.

Happy Streaming!

It would be nice to know at least some general details of what is going to happen. More sharing of Roku user data with Google? Forced to use more expensive chips to decode AV1 video?

I have checked the channel store on my Ultra, and YouTube TV is again available to install. All you YTTV users can now install the latest version.

Roku is going to have to support AV1, regardless of YouTube, so that probably didn't have much to do with it. As to user data, Google already knows so much about a person it likely doesn't matter much there either. I do hope Roku was able to stand firm about not giving them info from using channels other than Google products.

Why is the Roku store asking for my PIN number to download the You Tube TV app if I am already paying You Tube TV for their service?

A PIN can be configured to block installing channels or purchasing content. It's a safety feature that you apparently didn't realize you had configured. You can go to your user account (https://my.roku.com) and change/disable the PIN if desired.

Thank gawd for sanity finally coming out!  I use the freebie apps very heavily now that the economy is so unstable.  Basic Youtube is my favourite one of all.

A real win-win for everyone involved.  Please no more scares for the Streaming users.

Reports indicate a multiyear deal was reached. What does "multiyear" mean? Two years? three years?. Just wanting to know how long we can rest easy.

More than one. It's unlikely the law-yers will allow them to release the actual agreement.

Thank goodness, because my wife bought me that Roku Ultra media player for Christmas and if it didn't have YouTube available it was going to be shipped back to the seller.

I am not allowed to give you support for this question, but on my Roku, it have a pin number so I don't accidently install an App that will charge me a fee to use it. Plus I don't want small children visiting having access to installing Apps.
