Is survey email legit? Roku needs to provide easy-to-find way for recipients to check

I received an email today purporting to be from Roku, and offering a "100usd" (hmm, that's a little suspicious) gift card to complete a survey. I spent WAY too long on Roku's site trying to find a way to check/report this - ROKU, I KNOW YOU DON'T WANT EVERY ROKU OWNER IN THE WORLD TO CONTACT YOU EVERY TIME THEY HAVE A TECHNICAL ISSUE, BUT IT IS NOT OK TO MAKE IT SO HARD FOR REGISTERED USERS TO CHECK THE LEGITIMACY OF EMAILS CLAIMING TO COME FROM YOU WITH POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS LINKS. I see this has come up multiple times before, but "Community" is NOT an intuitive place to seek verification of Roku emails, since community members couldn't be expected to know whether an email was sent by Roku or not. It's in your own best interests (if this is a real survey) to give recipients a way to easily confirm that. Just put a "Report Abuse" link in the footer like everyone else does. How hard is that??

@streamundrang

Thanks for the inquiry.

Can you provide the email address that you received this survey from? If you can provide that information, I can verify if that is a legitimate email survey.

Please keep us posted.

Thanks,
Danny

I think you missed his point. It would be simple to put a link without having to search for a while on where to email suspected fraud for Roku to address. He spent a lot of time looking, and then having to go to the forum, write his exact concerns and wait for a response. How would you feel if this were the case for you?

Yes, exactly, Roku did miss (or rather ignore) the point. Not an oversight, I suspect. They hit me with a popup survey on my experience with the forum, so they got another earful there, LOL. Just one thing, I am not a "he."

@streamundrang

Thanks for the follow up.

I can confirm that the survey that you received is indeed from Roku.

Re: Is survey email legit? Roku needs to provide easy-to-find way for recipients to check

1st, if you want to survey your community and customers, send the survey from your own mail servers. Many people do not want to supply their email addresses and other credentials to a third party.

2nd, Stop supplying our email addresses to a third party, the fact they sent out the survey is proof you have already supplied a third party our email addresses.

My main addition to any survey would be, FIX the issue with Youtube, and failure to do that will certainly result in the loss of THOUSANDS of loyal customers.

Some Roku customers have already jumped, or are considering it. I personally have been a customer of Roku products since 2006 and still have a working original version of the first streaming box with the Roku name, but I also have been investigating other products.

Emailed survey- is it legit

Just received an email survey request. Is it legit? Email address is Roku@email1.roku.com

Re: Emailed survey- is it legit

If that was the legitimate sending email address, it should be legit. Depending on your mail client, you should be able to find out if that was the actual email address it came from.

A few months ago Roku did send out a legitimate survey to customers. It sounds like perhaps they're conducting another one.

Re: Emailed survey- is it legit

Thanks, Dan.  I am not going to work that hard to answer a survey, so I guess Roku needs to figure out a way to conduct surveys that make it easy for customers to verify.  I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
