Fox new daily login; FIXED

Jump to solution

Hey I just wanted to post this for frustrated Fox News viewers that are required to authenticate their credentials every day with the app.  Literally every 24 hours I would have to authenticate my credentials super frustrating.

But then I installed a mesh network in my house, eero...... And the issue has gone away.  It’s been probably two months and still have not had to log back in!!

Same here. The login credentials appear to expire after one day, which is completely annoying.

That is unusual behavior.

Some apps require re-authentication if they detect multiple logins from the same account from different locations. Essentially, a way to reduce account sharing. In that case, it would be intentional behavior.

Note that a Roku device tied to the same Roku account at a different location may be considered "account sharing" if the app uses Roku's Single Sign On process.

However, when that is not the situation, it would most likely be an error that's causing it. And the error would not be the fault of the user.

Assuming the situation is the latter (that is, not sharing cable/satellite/streaming account credentials) one possible thing to fix it may be the following steps, in this order:

  1. Launch the app
  2. If logged in, log out, then close the app. If not logged in, just go ahead and close the app.
  3. Remove the app from your Roku device.
  4. Reboot the Roku. In fact, reboot all of your Roku devices. Wait for all of them to finish rebooting.
  5. Reinstall the app on one device.
  6. Log in to the app and confirm it's working.

Don't skip a step. Don't change the order of the steps. Let us know if this works. Might take a couple of days to ensure that it's keeping the credentials.

Already did the reinstall/reboot and the problem persisted.  This was done before I checked the Roku Community to see if others were having this issue.

The Fox News app has it's own login (cable company), the credentials for which have not been shared with anyone.  Single Sign-On is not involved, and the only other login credentials on the Roku are for Netflix, and these credentials are obviously not the same.

I've seen similar behavior with the Fox News app a few years ago, so it's the app.  Whether the issues with the app are on the Fox News side, or the Roku side, are not clear.  Hopefully someone who works on this app actually uses it and will report the issue though the proper channel so that it can be resolved. I don't think any meaningful help can be obtained for online communities, apart from confirming the issue is widespread and perhaps catching the attention of the developers.

Fox News app is notorious for that behavior. As this app, and many other apps, rely on authentication from a cable/satellite/streaming service in order to use the app, the apps are susceptible to re-authentication issues. Fox News seems to get a lot of these. Whether it's because of a poorly-written app, or a business decision to request verification and re-authentication more than most, I can't say.

One thing that seems to be in common is that the users that report the issues are almost entirely cable subscribers. And that leads to this next question: Why are you subscribing to cable?

That's not a challenge, but a question to get a determination of whether or not you are really getting the best return on your dollar.

Ask yourself: How much is Internet and cable?

Then ask: How much is just Internet if cable was dropped?

Finally ask: What's the difference between those two?

That number would be a budget for a live streaming service. If it's less than $35 dollars savings, then you won't save money by dropping cable and using live streaming services. However, if it's more than $35, then you can save money.

  • Sling TV's Blue package is $35/month and includes Fox News.
  • Vidgo's Basic package is $45/month.
  • Hulu With Live TV, YouTube TV, and Fubo (Starter) are all $65/month.

There are other options that cost more. But the point is you don't need cable to get Fox News. You can stream Fox News via any of those services. And, perhaps you can save money doing it. You just have to crunch the numbers.

This doesn't resolve the issue of the Fox News app requiring re-authentication, but it may be an alternative way to get Fox News that has other benefits.

Hello @Alanclos

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.

Channels on Roku are maintained by the channel developer themselves. If the issue you're experiencing only occurs on Fox News, it'll be best to reach out to their support team directly to report the issue and for further help. There's likely an issue within that specific channel that needs to be addressed with an update from the channel developer.

You can contact their support here: https://help.foxnews.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Thank you for your understanding.

All the best,
Kariza

Not a cable subscriber and the Fox News app on my Apple TV works fine. It's only the Roku device that require DAILY log ins and is very annoying. How do we fix this!!!!!!
