YouTube TV & Closed Captions

Not able to turn on the Youtube TV "Closed Caption" feature on my Roku Ultra & Stick devices.  Pressing the setting in the app does nothing.
CC feature does seem to works on my Youtube TV computer browsers.

Anyone know if the CC feature is not yet implemented on the YouTube TV app via Roku?

Here's how I finally saw the cc option using a #Roku and #Youtubetv.  Using the Roku remote control, select your show on Youtubetv and play it.  Then press the "pause" button on the remote control to temporarily stop your show.  You then should see at the bottom of the tv screen several options including "cc" for captioning.  Using the Roku remote, arrow down and over to the "cc" option, select it, and arrow over to turn on the captions.

  • It works fine for me. Are you selecting the more menu item and then going to CC and then enabling the correct one?

I’m having same problem - cannot turn on CC on YouTubeTV.  Where is this “more” menu item?  I don’t see it anywhere on the YouTube TV app on my TV.

OMG, this solved the close captioning mystery. THANK YOU. After spending much time calling Samsung who was clueless, I'm so glad I found the Roku version on how to fix the CC.. My wife's hearing is impaired and we needed the CC option on our new Samsung TV... YAAAAAAAY.. Thanks Roku and everyone!

  • The issue of ever-lasting CCs is a bug. The setting for CC on the Youtube setting page is clearly ignored by the Roku youtube app as the video is being started for the first time. Exit it, and re-enter again. The CC will be greyed out and CC will not be displayed. I have no idea why this VERY simple debugging hasn't been discovered by the developers yet. Maybe, they did, but nobody wants to fix it. I've checked the version, and it shows 202004 for the release date.

  • Mine only has Korean as an option, and I don't speak Korean. I think it was because I was googling some bulgogi recipes earlier today. This has never happened before. The only option is "Korean (auto-generated)"

Thank you! I  haven't looked at settings in quite awhile I think I'll dink around with it today and see if anything has changed on my end.

      Hello esprit15d

      Thanks for the post.

Please be advised that channels on Roku are developed and maintained by the channel developer themselves. We suggest reaching out to YouTube's customer support team to see if they have any additional settings or options within their device that resolve the issue you're experiencing with captions.

You can contact them here: YouTube Help

      Try this just in case?

with Roku remote, press the home icon.

      scroll to Settings

      scroll to accessibility

click right for ‘captions preferred language’

when I do this, I get English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, polish, Ukrainian, Romanian, dutch, Croatian, Hungarian, Greek, Czech and Swedish as options.

I have a feeling you’ve already tried this?

  • I struggled with this. Finally figured it out. Clicked gear icon on roku remote, then sound and captions, then since my captions were off, I toggled to on. Weirdly, I had looked thru the options many times and never saw this! It's like the tv heard me and made the option available:) #roku

I don't have a "gear icon" on my roku remote. I have a star icon, and I tried it just for the heck of it and it just took me to the main menu.

      Thanks!
