Screen stuck on "use accessibility shortcut: screen

The mute button on the right side when held down will trigger this shortcut. It will eventually go away on its own after a minute or so. Otherwise, I have to get the remote to the Samsung tv to close it out.

Please create a way to turn this feature off. This is so Annoying. The feature is disabled on the settings for the tv but the Roku app will cause it to open if you hold the mute button a second to long. This is really annoying and we need a fix.

      Hi,

i’ve experienced this issue many times over the last few years. I’ve been able to temporarily stop the “accessibility“ pop up by leaving the Roku unplugged for more than five minutes. My best approach has been once the Roku mute button misbehaves, I’ve unplugged the Roku overnight.  Once the Roku is reset in this manner, it has correctly worked for a number of months before the issue returns…

After spending 25 years in the cell phone business as a test engineer and project manager, I believe the Roku has a glitch (it goes off into the weeds so to speak possibly due to warming or not being used for a few days???) . I do know that these issues are difficult to reproduce from a software development perspective.  Solving this needs focus by software experts and testers to create experiments based on input from customers like these on this thread.

I look forward to a software solution soon so I no longer need to unplug my Roku Ultra.  😎

I am having the exact same problem as described by everyone else here.  I have had the same TV and Roku for quite a while now and this just started out of the blue about a month ago.  Very frustrating

Once we have this information, we'll be able to assist you further.

Nothing has changed with our settings. I can easily reproduce the pop up. Just holding down the mute bottom on the side of the Roku remote will trigger the accessibility pop-up window. There is a “close” button within the window but you must use the TV’s remote (Samsung in our case) to close the window. Otherwise, if you do nothing the pop-up window will disappear in its own after about one minute. There is no way to close the window with the Roku remote that I have found. I also have not found a setting that will disassociate this accessibility setting from the Roku remote.

InjayMama, holding down the mute button on your Roku remote is no different than holding down the mute button on your TV's remote.  I imagine if you try it with your TV's remote you'll see the same shortcut screen.  Go through your TV's settings to see if there's a way to disable the shortcut.

  • I have had this issue for 9 months with my Roku ultra and Samsung tv. I have gotten 2 new Roku remotes and it keeps happening. So frustrating. But I recently purchased an off brand remote for $12 that wasn’t on wireless and it works great. Not one issue. Yes it doesn’t feel as good in the hand as the Roku model but everything else works great and makes watching tv pleasurable once again. I recommend this as a viable solution.

I had this issue with a Roku Ultra and LG C2. Changing the remote TV pairing from IR to CEC resolved it for me.

I think sometimes when you hit the mute or volume buttons on the Roku remote it does a long hold for some reason. That explains this issue and also the issue where sometimes pressing a volume button will cause the volume to continuously go up or down (as if you were holding the button down, even though you just click it).

I have have a similar problem with a just purchased LG 4K and Roku Ultra.

Pushing mute multiple times brings up a sidebar screen with menu selections for "AV Reset", "Auto Tuning", and "LG Remote Service" along with a few toggles.

Pushing the mute 3X in a row quickly is a "feature" to turn on this service menu which isn't attached to the main menu tree since it contains items that may be more magic than an average user should be playing with.

Another site had the following fix:

        1. Press the settings button on the TV remote

        2. Scroll down to "All Settings" select

        3. Scroll down to "General" and press right

        4. Scroll down until you reach "Quick Start", toggle it to the off position.

The post author said this process or a close one should work on LG TVs. I haven't had a chance to test it yet because I don't have access to the TV right now.

I would guess that other TV manufacturers might have a similar "feature" and some hunting in depths of the setup screens might also disable it.

I'll report back after I get a chance to try the fix.
