First, there's nothing that says you need to use it if it doesn't meet your expectations. It's not interfering with any other functionality on your Roku by just being there. You can move it to the bottom of your home screen if you don't want it visible at the top.
But if you really want to remove it, simply highlight the tile, press the * button and select "Remove channel". I can't say Roku won't add it back in with some system update, but again you can either simply ignore it or remove it again. Myself personally, I've never had Roku install a channel without me instigating the installation. But there has been others that report removed channels being added back in.
