I am a developer and I'm trying to test my app before publishing and I can't because I'm getting the same 404 error.  How are we supposed to test apps if we can no longer do so with Private chanels?  My app is already on the app store, approved by Roku so I can't imagine it's a policy issue with my app.

Feel free to delete. According to the verge online news page.... Roku plans to get rid of private channels, other than "testing" ones by March 2022. PH is NOT the only one affected. Here's the article: https://www.theverge.com/2021/11/3/22762236/pornhub-roku-private-channels-march-2022

It looks like their solution is to get rid of the problems all together, blaming the BAD PRIVATE CHANNELS for the issues. VERY SAD. This is a poor move, because nobody gives viewers the variety like Roku private channels. This is not a good move to the Roku consumer. Lately, Roku has been making very bad moves, which puts it's future consumers in jeopardy.

Private Channels Need to Continue

Jump to solution

I would like to add my voice against doing away with Private Channels.

I have appreciated that Roku was independent of those who make money from providing content. It is why I adopted their devices when they were first introduced.

Now they are trying to provide content and I must rethink the best device for me.

I don't need Roku TV or radio... I need for Roku to provide a platform for all streamers.

Roku said last year that private channels were going away.  Apparently, that happened yesterday.

This post from October says "by March 1".  This post from November shows that "by March 1" had already been refined to "on February 23".

Private channel developers were told "March 1, 2022" as PH also displayed before it disappeared. Also what The Verge article said. Once again....

Yeah, but "on" or "by"?  Anyway, I've had Feb 23rd in the back of my mind for a long time so I was just curious where March 1 came from.  I did a little more looking and found some news sites that say "On March 1" but they link to the same roku page that I linked to that said "by March 1".  Easy thing to do.

In any case, it was one week difference for something announced 4 months before or around a 5% variance. Smiley Happy
